I fail to see the wisdom of assuming children are homo economus capable of expressing consumer will, especially since for the first ten (and even twenty) years of their existence they are mindless meme conduits for whatever mass media monster pumps them full of nonsense.
> There are a huge number of information sharing programs in effect in America and these have been cornerstone initiatives for the US government to deal with espionage and sabotage operations
You also need to factor in how outsourcing and globalization gutted Detroit (Motown). Poorly educated blacks from the delta came up to urban areas to engage in technological manufacturing jobs and were paid very well for it. The model was so successful that company owners eventually outsourced the entire operation to freshly-destroyed post-Cultural Revolution China and paid them a bowl of rice to do the same work instead.
Blacks went from lower middle class to wards of the state in less than a generation because of that.
But hey, at least you have hundreds of millions of Chinese employed and less than twenty million blacks impoverished instead of the other way around.
Someone has to pay the price for industrial wonder, folks.
When Clinton's election campaign starts funding hit pieces about the obvious gender bias in mining and garbage collection industries, I'll start taking this narrative seriously.
Until then, keep being a sucker for #hilary2016, HN.
In order to create such a high volume of billionaires that the world presently has, asset devaluation has to scale in relation to that volume. Otherwise, one or two trillionaires would own everything because the opportunity cost of not owning any asset anywhere at any time would be near zero... which is near impossible.
Trillionaries do not have a semi-autonomous, totally loyal robotic confiscation force capable of self-replication... yet.
Therefore, there are non-zero opportunity costs in asset acquisition, which are only possible via asset depreciation.
And, yes, humans are an asset, and yes, they can be depreciated via mechanical leverage. (What exactly do you think floating exchanges rates are for?)
"Money == speech" is a rhetorical device for soapbox points. The ruling for that was very clear in stating that there is no way to separate political speech with the intent to persuade from the costs of such speech. (leaflets, airtime, and meeting halls all cost money) Therefore, spending money on that type of speech is granted 1A coverage because denying people money for that type of speech is the same as denying their right to speak.
I've been noticing a trend of pro-union propaganda flooding HackerNews for months now. (starting with the outrage machine pumping Uber as the newest evil)
I come from a heavily unionized state. Globalization decimated them and the only thing they could do was stage impotent displays of grandiosity. If you think corporate greed alone killed unions, then you are nothing more than a grass-is-greener useful idiot. Union incompetance killed unions. Union ignorance killed unions. Union faith in its golden era mythology killed unions. Corporations just made it profitable.
If you think the solution to a glut of knowledge workers is to collude to create artifical drops in supply, you are just giving your "corporate enemy" the easiest fight of its life. The reality is that knowledge labor IS globally liquid, and short of a deeply embedded fascist/mercantilist nationalism that violently curbs immigration, outsourcing, and the Internet, you will not and cannot stop capital from hiring pixel pushers overseas.
Detriot. Patterson. Newark. Camden. These are the glorious ruins of unions. Perhaps in between gentrification waves and Tumblr crusades, you should go raise a family in one of these shining beacons of equality and let us all know how it turns out.
These transmutation chains intersect upon world lines, forming trade networks. Humans currently have a monopoly on the transmutation process, and thus, all subsequent structures that process allows. That will not always be the case.
The industrial age increased the energy, material, and yield of transmutation while also reducing time. It also increased the speed on which yield is passed to the next transmutation process by while increasing the chain length. The overall network expanded because of these contributions. The fundamental human component remained the same, however. The delays between transmutation and critical bottlenecks of yield distribution in this network are where financial institutions reign.
With robotic transmutation, the energy variable changes dramatically. “Time value” is no longer a required energy input. Robotic transmutation has no concept of time, and thus, has no valuation upon it. This is not because the robot can't measure time, but because the humans that need the robot isolate the effects of time and decay from it. If the robot breaks down, a human fixes it, not the robot. Therefore, as long as the human/robotic symbiosis remains, the robot will never evolve to resolve the pressures of time value. Therefore, robots cannot establish the skill sets to manage time value pressures.
Humanity, for the foreseeable future according to my theories, will specialize to become a robotic workforces immune system. There will not be a revolt (Sorry social justice junkies, capitalists win again!) because robotic labor will provide access to frontiers previously inaccessible by today's configuration, specifically, deep earth mining and local space colonization.
- Claimants go to war with one another. Soldiers are invented, voluntary and noble at first. Religious later. Can't do mass conscription from the common man as he's working the essential farms.
- Losers happen. Slavery is invented.
- Slaves work the mines and other harsh labor, which allows for post-agrarian activities and advanced economies.
- King sits back and lets the the whole clusterfuck evolve in his favor.
A auto-catalytic male shortage. Easy peasy.
Inadvertently, I have just Twitterized the Old Testament.
