his arguments are applicable to any online service (giving up data to third parties). the idea that opera unite can substitute for the functionality of something like azure -- resulted in me flagging this article for reasons of absolute nonsense.
Replace "Microsoft" with "all cloud operators" and, though still paranoid, at least you won't sound like a raving hater.
It doesn't matter if its Google or Microsoft or any one else. Once they amass huge data, they become the target of governments etc. We should figure out new ways to manage our data ourselves, and still be a part of the web.
