It's more like a video game with lots of mini-games to keep me pleasantly distracted.

Inevitable success? Death is an inevitable end to life. I see it more like fighting against something that you know you will lose to. Just winning some time before your ultimate loss.
If so, this might help explain why so many people pursue startups with low probability of success.
