Ask HN: why are there so many posts about American politics recently

I mostly agree, but many of these stories are relevant to an international audience. Non-U.S. citizens should care what's going on, too.
I'm not American. I believe that we should be taking notice as an international community about American (Tech & privacy related) politics.
Why? Because it impacts us too. There is no doubt that a majority of today's web innovation comes straight out of Silicon Valley with names like Apple, Facebook, Google being based there. Because they have global reach, data from all around the world is held by them. Even if I am not a US citizen, it affects me because if it is all true, then the US intelligence service has a wealth of information about me at the click of a button. My local government (and yours too) can't do anything to protect you from them.
I agree with you that this may sway from the original intention for Hacker News but I still think it is a very important issue that should have visibility here.

Liberty is required for innovation.
I only ask because I feel the quality of the front page was a lot better a few weeks ago before this whole NSA story broke. Does anyone else agree?
