Could this be used with type-2 diabetes, converting excess blood glucose into electricity? The article doesn't state though how much glucose (mg/dl) is converted, so one cannot say, if the conversion is relevant.
I wonder if this can also be used for weight loss. I guess it would have to be a much larger device but would it be possible?

I wish I knew but that was actually the same thought I had, it's especially interesting to consider how it may interact with different types of sugars in the future

Another thought I had was the reverse, sort of. Mitochondria generate proton difference to convert ADP to ATP which is used to power a cell, it would be interesting if there were away to do this with electricity, something along the lines of chloroplasts used to make sugar.
