Because every company wants to vendorlock all to their service. Same with systemd, flatpak e.t.c.

What's so bad about snaps? I know they start slow on any given hardware, as evident from my own computer, but apart from that, I don't really know.

I can't open links from thunderbird in chromium snap, I have to copy and paste them. I also can't open progressive web apps from the menu. I have multiple other integration issues with the snaps that are forced upon me, which for now is just chromium, but I do also use firefox
Because it is slow to start, and can have weird quirks where things don't work quite right. You also have less control over when it updates, which doesn't bother me that much, but is a problem for some people.
It also takes up more space on disk, and it is the snap packager's responsibility apply security updates on upstream dependencies, rather than the ubuntu packagers, although for Firefox, I don't think there is too much worry there, as long as Mozilla puts some effort into the snap.

Personally, I hate anything that clutters my home directory. Have they added an option to relocate ~/snap?
