I hate to be cruel, but expect the response from Reddit to be something similar to "You knew your situation, you chose to have another kid, and now you want our help?"
I'm not saying this is a reasonable response, just that you should be prepared for it. :(

Best comment so far in the request box tonight was: "Of all the worthless causes to donate to. I live in a one-bedroom rented apartment with my wife and 2-yr-old. So I guess I should set up a poor-me website like this too? I would respect you more if you told me the money would be used to pay for hookers and cocaine. "
Thoughts:
1) Cute kid.
2) "Real estate" is two words.
3) As a redditor, I've gotta say this probably won't get too much traction there. The people that do receive help from the community generally sound a lot more desperate than you do.

Take a close look at the type of response that a guy asking for donations to a reputable charity received before you post this to reddit. Reddit is very fickle and has as many readers from places like 4chan as it does reddit.

The background is my wife and I are having another child in July (we don't know the gender yet). This is our 3rd, and we have run out of rooms for the baby. The mortgage itself isn't the problem, we can afford it and a little more, but when we go to sell the house after realtor fees etc we are going to be underwater by a significant amount.
So my idea was to make a site, try and get it on Reddit, and just ask for $1 donations. I have seen them raise money before, likely for much better causes though.
Any suggestions or improvements? I wrote the site using Rails 3 and Sqlite3, and there is no paypal integration yet (I was just going to update the counter manually)
