Ask HN: Who Is Hiring (For Freelance/Part Time Remote Work)
Most of the who's hiring threads get mass submissions with a bunch of FT jobs out in California, jobs that I wouldn't be prepared to make the move for (few great startup jobs in the DC area where I am now, trying to build up more of a buffer before I head out on my own). I'm presently a PHP/MySQL/JS/jQuery/HTML/CSS/WordPress/Joomla developer looking for a fun project to become a part of outside of the 9-5 umbrella.

* Experienced sysadmins, especially who have experience with AWS and EC2.
And also specialists:
* People with backgrounds in machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, and/or search. Medium experience is fine, you don't have to have a PhD.
* Python/Django programmers
* Java programmers

Example things you might work on:
* Take this Python/Java program that operates in batch over textfiles, and convert it into a webservice (REST+JSON or XML-RPC or whatever) that operates real-time online (one document at a time).
* I have a NLP tool but the output is dirty. Build these simple text processing components to clean it up, e.g. by discarding low freq terms.
* Exploratory statistical analysis over data sets, to see if there are any interesting patterns. (More open ended)
* Take this code for a neural network, and write scripts that batch invoke the NN with different hyperparameters to do model selection.

I agree, good thread, but there was precisely one option there that fit my skill set (and I'd venture to say that my skillset is quite similar to many folks looking for part-time work), so I figured it'd be useful.
Didn't your very similar submission yesterday get closed? I have to express my concern about threads like this. I do not believe HN is your own personal job board, nor do I care to see many submissions of people's talents looking for work. Sorry for being harsh, but two submissions in two days...

I'm doing part time Android work for my old employer although honestly I barely know what I'm doing. It's editing an existing Android client app that they inherited and are successfully selling. I don't know if they're open to hiring anyone else to do the changes (I am pretty cheap) but I really have no time for it anymore and have told them so on many occasions. Same here, I have worked with RoR/Coldfusion/actionscript/Mysql/Oracle primarily in jobs and Co-ops and familiar with HTML/CSS/javascript. Before that I have worked with java/C#/c++ and a little PHP. I am looking for a remote flash job, particularly in games, I have previously worked for a company called Woogi World and have several of my creations online.
