I was almost tempted to click it to see if it worked, but then I thought that it might be a bad idea. I might make a test account and see what happens. Seriously can't stand curiosity. I assume, of course, that it deletes your account but what I am not sure of is what happens between clicking the button and actual deletion. Will report back shortly.
That won't happen, you have to jump through hoops of fire to get a gmail account now. SMS Validation? I am not that curious.
I have been setting up a lot of Gmail accounts recently for students in computer literacy courses I teach and I have not needed to do SMS validation (last account I set up was last week).
The CAPTCHA's a pain though. Imagine trying to explain to someone who's never used a computer before why we have to keep retyping the blurry words to get to what they want.

You can invite yourself to create an account, and than you do not need SMS validation.
Just register a new account on youtube.
"The password you gave is incorrect.

That seems a bit excessive, like cutting your nose off to spite your face.
The internet likes to be outraged. Gives people something to tweet about.
But Google automatically showed me a list of my friends in Gmail!
I'm sure a lot of this really is mob-style insanity, but for me this was just a tipping point. I've been bothered for several months has Google's growth has become phenomenally massive. It's made me realize just how much of my personal data they have, and while I think they are one of the most trustworthy companies out there, I still don't think it's safe. This has motivated me to at least start spreading out. I really like Google services, but I think it's time that my banking,etc.. and personal correspondence go with someone who doesn't know everything else about me.
Agreed. I'm not suggesting, just posting.
I just tried giving wrong password for delete web history and got this - http://twitpic.com/136nev/full
This is hacker news?
This is part of the Anti-Google hate. Ignore it. It'll pass.
Does your service support deleting accounts?
This is very relevant to all of us. Privacy concerns and data portability are huge deals. At least to me.

It gave me an offer to delete my search history which I gladly took up. Thanks for the tip.
Ha! Go to the page to delete web history and then click the web history faq link.
"The page - www.google.com/privacyfaq.html - does not exist. "
Too perfect.
