I agree with you. It's been my experience though that tracking down solutions manuals for textbooks is very hard. Presumably because they want them out of the hands of students (to prevent cheating).
There needs to be more resources for self-learning. Solutions need to be provided for problems, with clear explanations. It's a different mindset from a formal academic setting, where there's a strong focus on cheating prevention.
I think it's naive to attribute all of the world's problems to "misinformation". You can give everyone the same information; in fact, we all already have the same information. But perspectives will vary, and there will be conflict.
Agree completely. I think the author misses the big insight here. Rather than universal deferment to authority, I think the insights here are a) that people overstate their confidence and b) not all science should be treated equally.
I enjoy my job and the lifestyle it provides. But as other have said, I tune out the "emergencies" and people panicking over it. It's all BS and I think it's important to recognize that. You're going to die in a short period of time. Do your best while at your job, and pretend to give a shit while you're there. But make sure to budget time for your family and yourself.

Yep. I use the VIM extension for Vs Code. I do a CMD-SHIFT-P -> Disable Vim whenever I need this functionality. Not sure if there's a better way to do it.
I think there have been a series of misinterpretations that unfortunately result in a lot of confusion and (in my opinion) completely miss the point of these stories.
I don't think 'God' is an 'entity' per se, I interpret 'God' as the reality one lives in. "God is an asshole", and "Life is a bitch" then become equivalent statements. Whether or not 'ignoring the threats' posed by 'God' according to this interpretation is wise is left as an exercise for the reader.
I think of 'the news' as a form of mind control. Whether or not is intentionally engineered as such isn't immediately relevant; ultimately, I think it's the effect on people that matters.
There is no unbiased delivery of information anymore (was there ever?). It's an incredibly powerful system of information delivery that influences what people think about.

No doubt, these censors and would-be censors have the best of intentions. But you've really got your head up your own ass if you convince yourself that you are protecting people by deciding the information that is appropriate for them to be exposed to. I just don't understand the shortsightedness, the naivete, or the willingness to discard the principle of free speech.
This selective application of values (e.g. being in favor of free speech, as long as you like what is being said) has been going on forever. We have had a system set up to account for this in the U.S., when the perceived threat to free speech was the government. That threat has become faceless mobs and private companies.
Any sort of bureaucratically enforced 'fairness' is going to be good for a certain type of person, and bad for another type of person.

I feel the same way. My take away was that every system of logic will have some sort of "This sentence is a lie." type of paradox. But it feels more like a technical quirk to me than anything of real significance. The fact that many people smarter than I am feel otherwise indicates to me that I'm missing something.
Some people may think that racism ended, but I don't think most do. In fact, I'd say this is a 'straw man', to quote the parent. I think the problem people have is seeing racism enacted to combat racism, which is just going to result in a feedback loop producing more racism, tribalism, and division.
