I think you're missing the benefits outside of scalability. There are a lot of native AWS services that help you to quickly prototype and build reliable solutions. A startup saves a lot of money (and time) by not needing to hire a whole devops team to manage various service clusters.
Yeah, maybe. It's still hard for me to envision giving up a 2014 and 2015 MBP. They both work flawlessly and don't compromise on any of the useful features, like having USB A ports, SD card slot, MagSafe, no touchbar, reasonably sized touchpad and so forth.
We have these accidents and pileups constantly without involvement of assisted driving technology. By your logic we should disallow anything that could ever hurt anybody.
I can't relate to this problem either. At 5pm the work computer is turned off. No work apps on my phone. I think people just lack hobbies outside of work so they have nothing better to do than work.
When you don't have to work you're probably more likely to be in a place where you enjoy it. Having said that, I wonder how much work these guys do once they're in these roles and have already proving themselves time and time again. I imagine most of the less satisfying work is delegated away and they get to spend time on whatever they want.
I would say losing your job is at the extreme end. There are many ways it could have impacted you without you even knowing. Obvious ones are missing out on promotions, getting a lower raise, bonus, etc. I think it's incredibly naive to think there would be no impact.

You have to look at the physical dimensions though. A 4.7 display edge-to-edge would be truly compact, but this one has a huge bezel so it's closer in size to the flagships and not really compact.
It's obviously a profit motive. They can charge more and have to spend less on R&D since they don't have to try to squeeze all the hardware into a small form factor. Not to mention there is no competition that could eat into their marketshare since nobody is making small phones.

It's maybe a fun language to play around with for a pet project, but for a reliable production system I would never pick it.
The language is too flexible with too many ways to do the same thing, increasing cognitive load and making things difficult to understand. Maybe you can limit that in your own projects, but what if you have to look at a library codebase that's structured completely differently. Trying to understand that can take a lot of time.
Also there is the problem with hiring. Maybe your current team can work well with Scala, but what if a key member leaves or a service gets transferred. Hiring for Scala turned out to be impossible, so you get all these people that need to learn Scala first. Normally that may be ok, but Scala has a pretty steep learning curve so it takes a lot longer to onboard people.
