Neither ISS nor space shuttles advance the cause of multiplanetary society. What good does it do to put a large satellite 250 miles up when all the interesting pieces of land are more than hundred thousand miles away?

Ah, the tired old argument of machines will take our jobs away. This has been wrong before and will be wrong again. 70% of US workforce was engaged in agriculture in one point, now it's 1.5%. There was no bloody revolution.
Also some argue this time is different because we're now automating jobs which require thinking. They conveniently forget that many jobs were automated before. E.g. in WWII an army of women used to calculate artillery ranges, now it's all handled by computers. New jobs will be found just like before.
What incentive do taxi companies have under existing regulations to make the lives of passengers any better? They have been granted A monopoly by the government and passengers will have to take them however bad they are because no competition is allowed.
Drivers are adults. They can stop driving for Uber any moment that wish. Or do you think that adults don't know whats good for themselves and government needs to tell them what to do?
