Well, I have a couple of realistic suggestions below as food for thoughts ... (some amateur experience with Kendo in the childhood)
* Add jagged ribs that prevent the attackers from grabbing your unbrella by bare hands. When grabbed, pulling it will cut their palm
* Make the fabric shark skin that similarly damages their palm when rubbed
* Make it actually heavy not light
* Make the grip thicker
* Make the grip longer enough for both hands
* Add a grip guard. This actually cause a stronger piercing
force because it pushes against the grip guard rather than relying on the palm friction
Cartridge distribution network is just like Amazon, right? It already exists.

I actually prefers pens than pencils but with different reasons. With pencils you are tempted to erase things. However, it is an illusion; Eraser does not really erase things, ending up in a dirty paper. It also takes much more time. With pens, erasing is effortless and does not require additional decision to make: Just strikethrough it. Then throw it away when you feel you want to start over.
Note that AMD has an abandoned K12 plan. They still have an ARM license AFAIU. And like what Fujitsu did to their SPARC to produce A64FX, swapping the frontend may make it possible to support an ARM instruction set without much modifications to the backend. So if they will, AMD would make an ARM chip
Actually, there is a good opportunity to be full-on joy mode after acceptance --- Presentation at the conference that follows. You can say as many sketchy things as you want (within caveat) and crave attention. So it is just this basic point --- There is no need to do this in a paper.
Congraturations on paper acceptance, but joy is very optional in research. Joy is emotional and it clobbers logical insight. Peer review is an attempt to guarantee a steady firm progress. It is a matter of taste --- do you want progress or just want to be comfortable? If you want joy, better to be a SF writer... Still, strong results with good execution are allowed to enjoy some freedom.
Im from the same uni, but from a different department. The project is famous as well as notorious for the commitment required.
Jp uni students typically write a thesis in the fourth/final year (is it called senior in the US?). This project is for the third year (junior in the US?). Probably there is also a difference between a (e.g. mechanical) engineering and a CS department. A typical CS conference paper does not need 1.5 year from initiation to publication, while I understand a mech work will need a lot more time. I moved from B.Eng to CS. With a proper guidance that lets a student focus on a particular subject (a research theme is given by the advisor), they do incredible work, although they may not have a broader view of the research field yet.

And yes these national university students are the top brains of the country. BTW, I am very sad that typical Japanese corporate organization basically rejects them as they are too smart and do not fit in their age-based structure. The author is in Microsoft anyways.
Like a 3D CAD or in Blender. Add or remove details. A circle could be a bouncy wire that has a shiny surface, or made of wood or plastic. They could rotate in the air, or running on a floor making a circle after being dropped. It could bend and get twisted it into a figure 8. I am writing this while imagining it, and I have no real ring-shaped object at hand.
