So the police seem to just let this happen without caring about its impact on the citizens that pay their salaries? Got it.
TikTok is no better or worse than Facebook or Google. US is just mad it can't boss Tik Tok around like they can any other tech giant. Because TikTok has ties to the Chinese government, there's a national security concern about what information they collect and share with China.
The whole "save the children" angle is pure optics. These politicians couldn't give a rat's about it but they know the public is so fed up with "toxic" social media they're using the excuse that it's psychologically damaging to children to go after it.
The government never seems to place any burden on parenting. But when they're being left out of the spynet is only when they care.
They should omit or classify covid records as a new category. I think everyone can agree it’s unfair to those that worked so hard in normal circumstances
The only thing I haven't liked about Pop!_OS in my two years of daily driving has been the name. I think they need to rebrand as 76OS or something a little more professional. But that's so subjective.
Oh and I hope they make a laptop with a trackpoint eventually! I know that's the one thing preventing me from making the switch to their HW.
I keep seeing this advice for windows users switching to Linux - that they "need" a DE that is incredibly similar to Windows in order to feel comfortable.
However, I think that's really the wrong approach. You'll just end up making them go into that headspace where they expect/want linux to work exactly like windows. If they really wanted something that's just like windows, why would they even leave windows to begin with?
Thank you so much for sharing. I quit after 1L because Covid hit and I really didn't think zoom law school was worth the $$. That and I fantasized about murdering my legal writing professor before and after every assignment...
But you hit the nail on the head with attorneys either being true believers or functional burnouts. I look back on all the attorneys that I've met before and during law school and I can only think of about two who were true believers. The dozen or so others just seemed miserable at the end of the day. Considering I was much too cynical to be a truly passionate attorney I knew immediately which one I'd end up.
Now I work in IT and I like it a lot. Similar values to law oddly enough - constant education, strategic problem solving, helping your client achieve certain goals, etc.
This just looks like Colorado is saying "not touching this one" in hopes that SCOTUS will settle it. Which it won't.
And I get the LGBT position that they want legal protection just like POCs have but at the end of the day aren't there hundreds of other designers who would take this client? And how many other bakers would have made the wedding cake? Just seems so petty at this point...
You wouldn't think it was amazing if you graduated with a Literature degree. This is the norm now. Texts are purposely ransacked for ideological goals instead of closely studied for transcendent themes and values. And I am willing to bet my entire life's savings that no one would give a shit about Dickens or Browning in this situation. Not one bit.
