Agreed. One approach could be getting yourself and your family on a completely separate IM network which is trustworthy and is not used for anything else. Then, you can set sounds for this particular app to loud plus vibration.
That's exactly the point: there is no just in case. The rule is simple: all notifications must always be silent (not calls), if you need to reach anyone in real-time, you have to call them. No checking your phone, no constant attention grabbing notification sounds, your time is yours, life is beautiful. Whoever invented that each and every notification message requests your attention is an idiot.
This is great, congrats for releasing. There is a minor annoyance though: the text in the cards is cutoff just before the bullet points without a clickable ellipsis.
So I said, OK, let me open a Discord account, just to be able to access your service. How hard can it be, right? Wrong. Got stuck in a "Wait, are you a robot?" loop, doing dozens of captchas, and in the end had to close the browser tab. Broken piece of crap.
I wanted to start using this but I can't since I can't use any email/password combination I want. By requiring an existing account from Google/GitHub/Discord you are just contributing to corporate-owned dystopia.
