More impressive then some of the 'Journalist' that have articles posted here from Axios, Atlantic, NYT, etc who's only credentials are that they are warm bodies willing to shill for whoever will pay them most.
I accidentally ran over my phone 5 weeks ago. Its been amazing. Get all my text on my computer. Need to plan ahead for things but sleeping better, feeling better. Next phone is going to be a feature phone, like something that runs KaiOs, phone, text, camera, maps.... nothing else.
This is incredulous! We need to stop them before they organize to shut down streets, burn city blocks to the ground, murder innocent by-standards, and harass people in libraries and restaurants to accept their beliefs or beaten to a pulp!
Interested to see if this is going to fail like the other times its been tried, or fail differently. Instead of continuing with this stupidity that is doomed to fail and impossible to fund in the long term.. ie free money with no strings attached, why don't they try something that has been proven to work with people that are actually poor (living on less the $1 a day with no social services, municipal services, etc), microcredit. This way you select for the people that actually want to get out of poverty, vs the people that are just going to blow through the money on useless stuff and come back asking for more.
There is never a bad time to plug Egan on HN. Diaspora is one of his novels around just this topic. If you decide to read it, strap in, you're going for a mind bending ride.

Nothing says 'white privilege' like being able to quit your high paying cushy job over your 'principles'. Congratulations! It might have been smarter to just donate 90% of your salary, STFU, and go to work to stay out of poverty. That would be a less self-serving action with real impact.
It was run by progressive policies instead of business principles. This is going to fail too, the same people are going to make the same mistakes. They could not even deliver broadband within the city limits, how are they going to do it statewide? Think Mosquito coast.
