That’s crazy, in the Netherlands (though about 16x smaller than Texas) the 10 biggest stadiums in the country are Football (soccer) stadiums ranging from 10400 capacity at #10 to about 56000 capacity for the #1 stadium (build for 130 million euro). All at the highest paid level of professional football.

Ok, so about 0.0134%, Parent comment’s point is that -the average European- absolutely does not want the US healthcare system in Europe. Simply due to our shared believe healthcare is a basic right and should be universally available to everyone.
Those who have the financial means to travel to the USA for medical treatment do so largely due to running out of conventional options at home, experimental treatments or specific doctors who are regarded as the best in their particular field.
Most of the US outbound medical travel is due to treatment at home being too expensive and risking pushing entire families to bankruptcy.
The fact that 100k europeans fly to the US for medical treatment is factual, but does not equal them wanting the US healthcare system in Europe.
I’m in Spain and get 10Gbit symmetric which comes down to about 7000mbps up and down on speedtests to my airbnb (in a small town 30min away from a touristic hotspot) for 30 euro’s. My home in Barcelona gets 1gbit symmetric for 25 euro.
Competition here has gotten pretty good with lots of virtual carrier being allowed by law to use telefonicas ftth which has driven prices down.
I’m the opposite to you where I’m always surprised when I hear people in fairly big towns/cities in US/UK etc are still on less then 100mbit symmetric!
Nice this is awesome! Well done. Once you have everything in NMEA it really does become very easy to integrate with other marine hardware/software. Literally everything runs on it :)
You should join Signal Cartel[1], the wormhole ‘rescue service’ it is a lot of fun and they provide some great tools for exploring.
Just remembering the good times make me want to jump back in! I’ve been the same as yourself. Probably tried a dozen times over the years. From mining to pvp, red v blue, tried it all but it always started to feel like work in the end. Exploring and Signal Cartel made me stick around the longest. Eventually got a bit bored with it.
The most EVE entertaining i’ve had recently is Andrew Groen book series Empires of Eve [2]. Basically all the great big war stories bundled into a very engaging 2 series book. It is a lovely read!
Small world! I head up the IT systems at Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Agree with your final paragraph that it is extremely close to F1 in terms of engineering bits. Good fun!
I’ve stopped drinking alcohol and sugary drinks about 4 years ago, but I likely still do the same things as you on my fridays/saturdays. It’s just me ordering water instead of alcohol/sugar, i am still as sociable and ‘fun’ than anyone else in the room, minus the annoying tendencies most drunk people have!
The biggest thing you run into is social pressure for not being called fun etc. Ignore it and you’ll be good :) you’ll notice amazing benefits 3 to 4 weeks after you stop drinking that’ll keep you going!
In terms of how you fill your evenings, that can stay the same, just involves a different drink. :) (unless you literally sit on the couch with an alcoholic beverage and do nothing else, but I’m unfamiliar with that!) hope that helps.
Been a big fan and supporter of Joe's work for a long time, really amazing work he is doing and how open he is about it, sharing lots of his knowledge in the BPS.space discord. Great to see him on the front page!
