Apple may not be against innovation, but they are trying to control innovation. That is inherently counter to innovating, and is an oxymoron.
You're saying that this simple 5 dollar chip (not 1 as you claim, by the way) doesn't hurt innovation, but it does. For instance, what if you wanted to connect your arduino to your iphone? Is it really worth paying 5 dollars to connect a 7 dollar chip?
Now suppose it is still worth it. Could a programmable microcomputer get by Apple's "Works with iPhone" standards? Not a chance.
I can think of a hundred cool things to do with an iPhone connected to an arduino, but those are all dead. I can think of a hundred more pieces of hardware I'd love to connect to my portable phone, but those can't work either.
The real thing that makes these "tablets" interesting is the number of features they have packed into them. The "ease of use" that people are talking about when referencing Apple's products is just a part of Apple's marketing for their devices. Android (and Maemo and MeeGo and etc) devices are much more capable and much more hackable. Why the praise for such a bland device such as the i-OSes when there's an awesome OS and device market sitting right next to it?
As an N900 user who has never had an N810, I love it! The keyboard is fine for hacking and the screen is pretty high resolution. The CPU is fast and it has lots of memory. The JDK works great on it too :)
A number of reasons: Everyone else is using windows, you're familiar with windows, all your software runs on windows, and installing Ubuntu requires a lot of downloading when a version of Windows is a cheap disk from a local store.
But will China forbit connections to IPv4 addresses? That seems pointless and harsh. If they still allow connections to IPv4, I don't see why people will bother to switch.
What if there was a new service that simply takes the blacklist and "fixes" the DNS. You could type something like http://blacklis.tr/piratebay.org and get forwarded to the correct IP. They could monitise the same way OpenDNS does by providing a DNS service as well.
But easy to test with 2 atoms! Smash them together at a high enough speed where e=mc^2 says they would create a black hole. If they are destroyed in a blip of Hawking radiation, they had gravity!
Anyone know of anything similar for other web technologies?
