I don't think slippery-slope is an appropriate argument to make here, or really anywhere.

To answer the UI elements on the bottom, I'm not sure I actually press the Send button at all, instead opting for a keystroke depending on the client. The physical analogue I base my request off is the order I fill out a letter or card--I write my message, then I sign it, and then I seal and address the envelope.

Beside that, what's to keep a hypothetical upside-down mail client from putting all of its control elements on the bottom of its interface?

Whatever you do when you build your client, do me one UI favor: Reverse the fields when composing. Body, then subject, then addressees, then the Send button. Think of all the headaches due to accidentally-sent mails the world over.

I'm finding more and more often that the best way to teach someone about a feature of their own favorite text editor is to threaten to walk them through doing it in vim. Magically, they've found the plugin or option before I can make it back to their desk with my solution.

The accomplishment is training myself to run as close to default as possible. I've gotten very accustomed to using NERDTree, for example, but that's because I never really took the time to learn to use netrw correctly. I seek to correct that now.

To misappropriate a Dawkins quote, I'm simply going one further, to zero.

More and more I feel like I should wean myself off NERDTree and back onto netrw like a grown-up. It would reduce the number of plugins I use to zero, and that would be an accomplishment.

19 is too many. I use one: NERDTree, and I bind Leader-n to NERTTreeToggle. It's invaluable to me.

I work exclusively in split windows, vertical and horizontal both, and I don't work without NERD Tree anymore.

I suggest remapping NERDTree's help function from ? to H so it doesn't interfere with search-up.

Nice. I've got a minor obsession with alternative ways of displaying the time of day. I've made a canvas clock or two of my own, and I used http://www.let.rug.nl/kleiweg/abclock/ glued to my root window for the longest time.

I like that your clock simply displays the time of day as a visual ratio of time elapsed to time remaining. Of course, at the one-second-per-pixel scale, getting the precise time of day at a glance is a little tough.

Have you considered using color to earmark blocks of time? If it's 300 pixels wide, then a row is 5 minutes. Have you tried maybe some pinstriping on each sixth row to show hour marks? Maybe wider, like 2-hour blocks? I think it would give a lot more information in a single glance.

Do you think turning it 90 degrees and having it progress left to right would be easier or more intuitive? And what about the size? 300x288 has its advantages, but have you played with other aspect ratios?

I'm not trying to pick apart your work, I'm trying to suggest different ways to take it because I like what you've done. If you want to return fire, I made http://slumberheart.com/things/clock.html earlier this year and would love to hear some suggestions.

I already said the profession wasn't part of the consideration.

Asking the child if what the teacher said is true is seen as an affront on the author's character as a person, not as a teacher, so it's reasonable for them to take offense at the accusation.

It's entirely reasonable not to trust the teacher's authority by default--I'm not challenging that. I'm only defending the author's position on taking offense to being challenged on something that was just said.
