Not quite. IBM has (had?) a research program on "cancelable" biometrics. I do not recall perfectly, but I think they were tweaking the encoded biometric sensor data before committing it to DBs. If there is a leak, one can redo it with a new tweak (like a new salt or nonce).

Question about terminology (no background in AI). In econometrics, estimation is model fitting (training, I guess), and inference refers to hypothesis testing (e.g. t or F tests). What does inference mean here?
Commenters are clearly trying to help. They can do better if you provide more context. What kind of math do you want to do? This does not have to be related to your dissertation area. And since you are asking on HN .. what kind of hacking/ development do you want to do? Coming from academia (I have a phd in game theory -- kind of useless in real world, other than ad auctions), it gets easier to find an industry job and develop idea of a good fit once you already have one! Zed Shaw's "Learn C the hard way". Had years of scientific programming before that (R, Matlab). But I used to be afraid of working with "real" code bases. This book (which still has an unfinished feel to it) helped me understand how computers work and how to write programs with that understanding - at a high level. Learning about "Object-oriented programming" with plain C was super fun. Not the most illuminating book I've read (e.g. The Gene by Siddhartha Mukherjee), but the others did not change my life.

This is incorrect. Not all ETFs. These funds are sector focused (vehicles). A regular S&P500 ETF will not hold NKLA.
