I find the term "Microsoft Account" to be disingenuous as it can be any email ID (my friends use their GMail) and that is a really nice touch since you can login to all their services with just your old gmail or whatever ID.

No one can down-vote posts, but posts that require attention (moderator related?) can be flagged to indicate that the link is to something that is outright bad (spam, inflamatory content, false information etc) and if it gets flagged by a lot of people it falls down the front page.
There's probably something else I don't know about the ranking algorithm though.

The article says that having the syntax is not a bad thing but doesn't really say what it has over LISP's simple syntax, expressiveness? easy to read for people unfamiliar with the language? AFAIK the one thing it definitely allows is to be able to write a program and common tasks in just a few characters, which is great and all but not the strength of perl and definitely not needed in all situations.
LISP syntax OTOH is as he said easy to pick up and parse while still allowing all the expressiveness any other language can have (even without more syntax like the lambda character).
But there is a similarity between the two, the outstanding syntax. I don't know about others but I'd attribute it to C's popularity more than anything else and with most other languages following it (JS, C++...) it seems like it should be standard or something, I've seen far too many people avoid learning languages due to syntax without realizing something much more important: They might be turning down a language that can save them tons of trouble later if they just get past the one time step of learning the syntax, so listen to the author, perl is a great CGI language, and if that's what you need just learn it. other languages may be easier to learn, may be what's hip now but I'd bet perl is still better.
Mostly, when submitting a post I refrain from changing the original title but I thought "How zsh is more useful than bash" would be better than the original. BTW I'd probably feel the same way too but the deck seems to be well received

Yeah you're right, The dell XT with capacitive touch was released in december of 2007 with a capacitive screen, the iPhone was released on june of 2007, I thought the op meant the iPad.

That's not true, I own a HP Tx2 which was released before the iPad and it has a capacitive touch screen it works great and before it there was the dell XT2 too.
Isn't representation of resources what the semantic web is supposed to be about? if I wanted to make someone understand the semantic web I would say something like this,
ontologies are data with corresponding metadata about everything on a domain or site.
These ontologies allow the data to be parsed automatically, i.e sites like amazon could just make their data available as ontologies and third party sites could "read through the sites for us". These third party sites serve as a portal from where we could ask for what we want and they would in turn look through the sites available (eBay, amazon etc) using the ontologies and get the best deal for us.

I just tried the YouTube plugin, it's really great! but it couldn't force 240p (I have a slow internet connection so i need to have this low quality option) and there is a keepaas plugin for chrome too [1] it even has a version for Firefox! but from what I read in its description, keeFox is the better addon.
Thanks for the suggestion, I already use DownThemAll but it could not even grab the download. It may be the site's fault, once I click on the download link it opens a new tab and the download starts, on chrome I can start another download but it gets stuck on Firefox, it may be that the page was made with chrome in mind idk.
I too have switched Firefox as my main browser, so far I like the better addons,
* ad block is much better
* addons work in private mode by default,
* an addon to use keepaas as my password manager
* many addons that allow me to customize youtube which i could not do in chrome (force 240p etc..),
* I missed Instant search but Firefox already searches bookmarks better and with the instantFox addon i can also search any site ala google instant and ddg

* Addons by HNers (HN in chrome is great with a few addons like tldr.io, HNbox)
* Firefox seems unable to do multiple downloads as well as chrome (I'm unable to download multiple videos at once from coursera when using firefox)

Regardless of whether the computation is done locally or not, he has been working on "augmented reality" using glasses, a great asset for google he may even prove to be.
Other CU-RTC-WEB aspects like the ones which focus on providing more customization as to how the network transport is handled could be integrated with WebRTC, this would allow more control over how the media is handled in transport, CU-RTC-WEB doesn't specify which codec to use so the final standard might as well just choose webM and opus.
