Ultimately Uber is doomed. Being first to market is great for building a brand, but the barrier to entry is so low for this manner of service that eventually they'll succumb to death by a thousand competitors.
I gotta hand it to Butterfield's PR person because I see his mug everywhere, but there's such a thing as too much circlejerk and I think the guy's reached that point. Slack isn't a revolution, it's evolution, and despite Butterfield's PR saturation, I'm just not interested in suckin the guy's dick.
The thing that bothers me the most in Silicon Valley is the cult of personality that is cultivated to drive the hype machine. Very few are genius or special in any way, it's just luck, timing, and connections. If we allow people like Butterfield or that nutjob Theranos chick to tap into an unlimited ego feedback loop, we're just creating tech bubbles of bullshit that will harm all of us. It's irrational exuberance, just like the 90s.
I'm really tired of all the internet kids plugging nuclear. The numbers don't work, and the cost of failure is huge. We can put solar on everyone's roof and turbines in windy areas and it's completely safe, dumb nuts simple, and decentralized. Nuclear energy is dead. Let it go.
The salty beer you're referring to is called Gose. It's a salty sour (lemony tart) ale of low alcohol that was brewed in the summertime, starting in the early 16th century. Along with the electrolytes that plants crave, the brewing process and low ph insured it was a pathogen free source of hydration.

Lutz is right about cost cutting. The Model X is a boondoggle; even Musk admitted they over engineered it, and they should have made the rear doors optional for those who want a roof rack.
A huge benefit of ev's was supposed to be the cost savings in using a single platform with multiple bodies. The Model S already had an all wheel drive platform, so I don't understand why Musk wouldn't take advantage of that with the Model X. IMHO that was a huge, huge mistake that's going to cost shareholders a ton of money.
I just moved out of a place I'd lived for 5 years that turned out to have black mold. I've had weird digestive issues and my immune system has gone to shit since living there but I wasn't aware of the mold problem and didn't know of the health problems it could cause. So this study is pretty terrifying; I should probably get tested.
