I take screenshots often as reminders, to annotate, etc. I setup a double-tap as an action to take a screenshot. So much faster then the older methods. You get some false positives, but really handy productivity hack.
I ordered a Pebble Time 2 on Kickstarter and a Core hoping to find the perfect smartwatch and run tracking combo. When the Apple Watch 2 came out, I figured I'd hedge my bets and get one of those, then keep whichever one I ended up liking more. Well, the Pebble + Core is never arriving (thanks for the quick refund!) - and I've really become found of the Apple Watch.
Built in GPS for run tracking is awesome, and with wireless airpods, I'll be able to run and listen to music/podcast with minimal extra weight.
A few other minor things I've liked about the Apple Watch 2:
- Setting a timer with Siri (use multiple times a day now)
- Weather on the watchface
- Check banking balances from watch
- PagerDuty notifications on watch vs. phone (my wife very much appreciates this!) - phone now stays out of the bedroom
I'm sad there isn't a good open source watch OS out there (with any decent looking hardware) - but until then, the Apple Watch 2 has been a pleasant surprise. I did have pretty low expectations going in, so that could be part of it.
Totally agree. I look at how I used to think and communicate, and "tool" is spot on. Software is so incredibly hard, it took me years, and many mistakes along the way, to learn this. And I'm still learning.
Author here. I wanted to share some of the early mistakes I made as a solo non-technical founder building a software company. I started learning to code after these early mistakes and it's been incredibly helpful. I can't thank HN enough for encouraging me to learn.
If anyone in Seattle wants to play some basketball near greenwood / phinney ridge area, I'm hosting at 7pm tonite at the Greenwood Elementary outdoor courts! Event is public on this app.
I worked from worksprogress for a few months when I first moved to Seattle, good space and location and Jessie and Marnee are great.
In talking with them about the childcare side of things, they ran into a lot of regulation that just proved too much at the time.
Childcare is highly regulated and childcare and workplaces even more so apparently. They said that many of the laws they were running into were meant to keep larger industrial organizations in check back in the day. Companies used to offer very sub-par "childcare" for line-workers and if a child was having a problem (sick, injury, etc) it wasn't in the best interest of the company to inform the parent (who would have to leave the production line).
I didn't think those laws would apply to a co-op type office where everyone is working for themselves.
When I left in December, there was no childcare running, just the co-op workspace (which I would highly recommend).
No source code, but the tool uses a number of different APIs, some paid, some free. The Moz API, which has a free tier has a good repo for getting started here: https://github.com/seomoz/SEOmozAPISamples
I've slowly been learning PHP the last 6 months or so, and finally spent a good few weeks hacking this backlink discover tool together. It's kinda the tool I always wanted for PR, SEO. It's just the first version, lots of improvements needed!
I was able to chat with Joel a few weeks ago (he has open office hours over skype! Talk about awesome) and I really think Buffer is the next SEOmoz-like company that does things the right way and shares along the way.
Actually the EMD update targeted EMD with low-quality backlinks to them. EMD that didn't have low-quality backlinks didn't seem to get hit. The goal of the update wasn't to penalize people with keywords in their domains.
I think it was mostly viral due to the speed at which the ad was placed. I think it was something around just a few minutes, which for a major brand, is insanely impressive.
Hmmm...I'm not an engineer and I love Google Tag Manager. It's not the most intuitive interface, but after a few hours, I can't imagine ever managing scripts anyway else. No need to bug my CTO just to add a conversion pixel? Heck yeah.
I would totally agree that the best SEOs can code. But still stand by my 99% number : ) Most SEOs are not coders (knowing how to customize a Thesis is not coding in my view)
