I buy from AliExpress and eBay not because of the shipping fee but because most of the time digikey/mouser doesn't sell hobbyist friendly form factors (like breakout boards) and some of this ic come in really tiny package (like tssop) which for an amateur are difficult to solder. Sometimes they need a resistor or a capacitor or a transistor easier to buy a board with everything on it that you stick to another board and that's it.
I started buying clothing from the brand itself (eg shoes directly from adidas, etc). Some appliances also direct. I sometimes buy food from Walmart but only if they are the retailer (they don't seem to commingle inventories). I bought some ssd directly from Samsung site. Another problem with amazon is the sheer quantity of not-counterfeit but cheap unknown knockoffs. It seems more like an expensive AliExpress.
So basically your answer tldr is "gig economy workers are dumb and financial/life decisions must be made for them in group and disregarding their particular situation and free will"
Hey, I am no fan of uber practices either, they usually are on a grey legal area. But if people do not realize this it is not good for them why the state should help them out. This is not a complex financial product or a dangerous chemical that
most people do not understand. This is Uber pays A, fooodora pays B. If B > A which company are you going to stay with ?
I'll put it the other way around if Uber does not attract enough bikers who is going to deliver their food ? It is basic supply and demand. Is there is a market but no suppliers, prices go up. If there is plenty of suppliers (bikers), prices go down. If the middleman (uber) is too greedy and screws the buyer or the supplier they are going to go with another middleman.
Socialism ... It never fails to ruin a country. When it is ruined then it was never "real socialism". The problem, and I know this is a little bit OT, is that when you give people incentives not to work or you give arbitrages opportunities they are going to go for it. Negative incentives work also, e.g. here they regulated almost every price, result: no regulated-price products are found (only in the black market).
That's the cool thing about socialism: is the same for all. Call me to discuss my ivory tower when you have to stand 2 hours in line to buy one loaf of bread.
Nobody is forcing you. Don't like your job get another job. If the job is so shitty they won't have any workers and they would fail. As many other companies had because of this
They put this ridiculous sign up bonuses, mass mail them and expect people not to take advantages of them. Want loyalty give better service and value and not the first 3 months only.
I think it's pretty obvious that Travis Kalanick should resign. He is the constant in all these stories supporting this nasty company culture. In the past year he has also been linked with Uber's shady business (attacks on press, fake income for drivers, etc) . He is the one pushing on borderline legal tactics. Even their business model is borderline legal (if anything). How he can deny knowing anything like the sexual harassment not happening ?
Pigeons and human have a pact. You continue and they will fly away in the last second. Cars don't need to stop for pigeons.
