On a second thought I can come up with 1) the rise of an unusually high number of billion dollar companies may signal an impending market correction and 2), a low number of billion dollar companies are founded during times of market over-exuberance.
Negative correlation between NASDAQ and number of unicorns founded in the corresponding year seems really interesting. Any deep thoughts on this ?
> The best times to start a unicorn company could be a) post the launch of a watershed new tech platform; and b) during a prolonged public market downturn. Without many great jobs available, the reduced opportunity cost and related hardship may spawn great innovation and grit.
Hey! I thought if people share what they are currently working on under the same thread, they can give feedback to each other more easily. I also believe it's a good way to get to know community.
Here is my feedback : I was expecting to see tuition on your landing page. Saying not cheap, seems confident but it makes it hard for me to take incentive to ask for an invite.
> If you get into Google, Facebook or Palantir, we’ll refund 100% of tuition. No catch.
I wonder how people approach this kind of offer. Seems tempting, may also increase motivation but I wanted to know what people say about this ?
About your concerns about, it's legality : It's completely legal, cubic.fm is powered by APIs of legal streaming services, including Spotify, Deezer, Rdio, Youtube and Soundcloud. Even if you add songs from other services, we'd find it on these sources and stream it to you.
By the way, it's the product that I'm currently working on. It's currently in private beta, I'd love to give you a direct access, just drop me an email onur at cubic dot fm
Thanks for the detailed answer. Have you get a chance to try cubic.fm ? I'd love to know your views on it, since you are a llama lover :)
There is a sad story behind. I stopped using winamp, when my PC and hard-drive got stolen. I couldn't download all the music I had. Then I started using streaming services on a regular basis.
https://cubic.fm is for all those who discover music all around the web; on Youtube, on Soundcloud, on Pandora, on their Facebook feed, on a music blog… cubic.fm extension gives you a “save” button wherever you come across new sounds. One click will add them to your personal library.
You can easily add tracks from different music services. cubic.fm finds the best available sources, and lets you stream all on the same player.
The extension currently works on 20+ websites including Facebook, Shazam, Youtube, Soundcloud, Pandora, 8tracks, HypeM, Beatport Pro, Reddit and any blog with embedded audio content.
The cubic.fm player can stream content from Spotify, Deezer, Rdio, Youtube and Soundcloud.
It's not ready yet and currently in private beta.
But If you send me email on [email protected], I'd love to give you direct access and get some feedback.
I see. Trying to detect keywords in an article could be nice improvement.
Another question, why did you limit the lower bound for the score w/ 200 ?
I assume you start indexing the HN submissions. In the long run you can create a context aware version of HN, e.g. 'Bring HN submissions with keyword X submitted during the last week.' This could be a brand new way to browse HN.
