Interviewing is a skill. There's a lot to performing well in an interview above and beyond knowing the answer to a question. Practicing is key. I have a lot of good friends that their first time interviewing they didn't manage to get any internships (even though they had a strong background), but after they got interviewing experience they landed almost every job they wanted. (Google, Facebook, Microsoft and so forth)
