Whenever I see posts like this, I always question the small amount of customization an icon allows for. If people are putting this much effort into these tiny little icons, I hope that we get to see the same amount of effort go into windows (phone) 8 live tiles. Theres much more room and more dynamics to make your app pop on the start screen.
Except that the 3GS isn't getting iOS6. It's lacking features from iOS6, such as Siri. Apple permeates this lie in order to fool you, the consumer, into thinking that they're completely 100% keeping everything up to date. While I agree they are doing a good job, they're still lying, and consumers (especially us) should be smart enough to see through this.
Most of this sounds about right to me. I think that they want to try to keep the current model intact but I'm sure that if they see that it's not possible they'll embrace a new one. The Surface looks like it might be an experiment with this new model. It's fun to watch for sure.
If this thing wasn't running Android, maybe it would be a viable product. But since it is, and judging by all of the current Android slates, I don't think it'll get anywhere
I think that people here are too pessimistic in general about Windows 8.
Look at the current trends in computing. They're using those trends to influence this release. And I think that a lot of the design decisions (especially ones like "content over chrome" are really damn good).
It's going to be super interesting to see how this thing is received by non-techy people come the holiday season.
