Actually the Slack I remember from when it first came out is more or less the same product they have now. I'm not really sure what all of those people were doing for all of those years.
> Also the interview was on a Tuesday or something and they said that they were out of money on Friday but were confident they would get more money on Monday.
> They wanted me to start immediately and when I turned them down because of the funding, they asked if I would start on Monday.
Is is straight out of a comedy sketch, I feel like you could take that to an open mic night and kill with it.
I'm also an owner of an older 182 (1966 - 182K) I agree with you the POH won't really teach someone enough about the aircraft to fly it let alone operate the radios.
All planes are required to have the original POH onboard. However those don't really tell you how to fly the plane it's more focused on things like Vspeeds minimum flap extension speeds etc..
Pilot here: It could help with some familiarity but generally in MSFS you can get away with ignoring the gauges and just mess around. The tutorial might gloss over some of it.
Having an unbelievable number of hours in MSFS when I was a kid ... landing a real plane is considerably harder and a ton of instruction time is just focused on getting you to land reliably. I finished my PPL in just over 40hrs which is close to the minimum. Most people will fall into the 60-100hr pool.
I'm dubious that this passenger really had zero experience it takes a good 6-10hrs to get decent at landing (as in not bending metal).
MSFS does however offer a reasonable feeling for the cruise portion of a flight.
Adobe is the king of bloatware and they will not fix it while they have us by the well "you know". If there were serious alternatives then Adobe would not be in the position it is today. Any company that requires me to PAY just to talk to outsourced tech support after I just bought $15,000 worth of software that is not working correctly seriously needs to get what's coming to it.
"Oh sorry sir you are using a "server" with Indesign that requires escalation level 3, and that is $79 to talk to a level 3 advisor sir, kindly."
Interesting, however from my test searches I could not find the same websites with the same keywords with DDG that I can with Google. Maybe it's the lack of history they have on the websites but the weighting is defiantly off when the #1 company to do XYZ in a given market and matches the keywords exactly is on page #2 while it's the #1 result on Google. In my test case google was way more accurate at giving me the results I actually wanted (the point of search).
If they can get some Google search Fu in there without doing a strip-search looking for loose change I'm all for it and would be more than happy to change.
This is one of the reasons I have been a champion of the Macbook Air. Even on the old 11in 1.4ghz C2D it's blazingly fast for 90% of stuff people actually do on their computers. As far as reliability, I have had many more regular HDs die on me then SSDs, however I only buy 5 star reviewed products off Newegg/Amazon which generally makes sure you're not buying a dud product (like the aforementioned OCZ drive).
Yes it was really not safe for work, I was interested until I got down to that photo then I was like "oh crap I hope none of my staff see I have this open"
The new topic of discussion around the office would have been: "Did you see the boss had porn on his screen!!"
Interesting game, reminds me of Super Meat Boy. I can only imagine the amount of work that went into making it. Having made (and shipped) a few simple games myself I can say "Bravo" However I think he looses focus because of that obnoxious post.
Anyone who has been in a management position for any length of time knows that the top down dictatorial style does not work. If you want the best from people you need to treat them well and encourage them.
From my experience these are the things I feel are important to managing a good team:
You don't tell people to do things you tell them what needs to be done. If you have built a good team you don't need to be command/control to get tasks accomplished. Any conflicts need to be handled quickly, sharply and fairly. People will live up to expectations. Set the bar and if they don't make it, point out where they could improve and give them confidence to try again.
Yes it is, that is because Apple wanted the largest target audience possible by making it "easy to use" Try to give your Grandmother some new interface without skeumorphism and see how well it works out. They use it because it removes barriers for the less technologically inclined.
The numbers don't make a lot of sense, however I'll take him at face value.
My advice would be to step back and look at it objectively, Why do I want to do this? If it's just to satisfy some checklist oh achievements I think there are better (and safer) paths.
If it's because you have a passion for something that you want built, well that's something completely different. If your ready to put it all on the line "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" then I think you need to do some self reflection. I don't think you can take someone else's idea try to implement and expect good results you need to be committed to what you're working on to a level that most people can't even imagine.
Layman's terms: You're the one who needs to answer your own question.
I think they handled it well, much better then Apple handled the Antennagate "saga" However I think they should have led with "We deleted what we had and we are going to work hard to earn back your trust"
Regardless of how bad what they were doing was, I don't think any of these except #2 are really realistic.
A good email explaining what they were doing, why and how they are going to correct it in the future should be sufficient.
Damage control should be "Oh crap, sorry we were just so dumb that we overlooked it" (which is most likely the case)
Flat out honesty is the best way to go here. (unless they were up to no good.. then well they deserve what they get)
