brother, you ain't peddling vacuum. Every $COMPANY I've worked for has supplied me with an e-mail address that ends in @${COMPANY}.com. I have never expected to be able to use my GMail address for work. I have never MET anyone who expected to be able to use their GMail address for work. If I received an e-mail purporting to be about dnalounge.com business but the From: field was [email protected] I would automatically discard as a terrible attempt at phishing.

JWZ created Netscape and now he can't fix email forwarding on his mail server. How the mighty have fallen. If I ever get this senile I hope my loved ones lead me onto an ice floe and abandon me or just take me behind a shed like Old Yeller and blow my brains out with a shotgun.

I'm glad you asked that. I actually really like maintenance coding. I like taking an application that was acting like garbage, identifying the good intentions within, and helping those good intentions to be expressed more explicitly in the actual function of the application. I like turning screams of rage into screams of delight. It's satisfying!

But what's great about this system is that under this 6-page system meetings are voluntary AND important. Knowing in advance that a meeting will start with 30 minutes of intense scrutiny makes it much more likely that people will not schedule meetings unless a problem /deserves/ that scrutiny.

You should've treated those incidents of assault as exactly that: assault. When adults physically assault other adults that is a crime and not reporting it doesn't make it any less of a crime. Just "taking it" means that an attacker can move on uncorrected to assault another person possibly making you complicit in another criminal act.

Anonymous griefers also DDoSed her personal blog, posted her phone number and address and those of her father online, and threatened her with rape and murder through multiple communications channels. Yes sir, it's pretty safe to be a guy in this industry right now, trigger fingers notwithstanding.

You are not obligated to do anything. If, however, you believe groups that use 100% of the available sapients will always outcompete groups that use 50% of them you will probably, of your own conscience, gravitate towards those groups that do not tacitly exclude those 50% and avoid those that do. When one side tacitly approves of rape threats and murder threats for people who speak out they make it pretty darn easy for me to choose.
