I never heard any of theses terms or texts, can you provide more background? I tried to search for the one "the Unabomber Manifesto" and it seems to be linked to a "mathematician/terrorist", and in the archive.org there is an article about "bad things of industrialization" and some weird characters, what that means?
Can you explain what i'm missing? I'm young and non-american, maybe i'm missing context.
You are right, both sides are to blame, but this don’t make any of the them better.
In Brazil we have the same mentality of “sides” and I believe that this is destroying the good sense of some people.
It’s not because everyone does it that it should be the norm, or that is not evil.
Our true challenge is how we can stop this type of propaganda without hurting any freedom?
In Brazil All the big publishers are in someway connected to the people in power, so our non-fake-news were never really impartial or independent. Some even say that the media should be controlled by the government (which is to me a 1984 scenario, but not so much different from what it’s today).
I believe that the only way to end this fake-news madness will be a truly anonymous p2p communication, but this would generate another kind of problem.
(Sorry for my english, I’m still learning how to write properly and an argument is kind hard to do, I may sound like provocative but that is because of my lack of vocabulary not my intentions)
I have that "faint unease" too, i need to give it more importance.
In the beginning i learn to ignore it because the mentality of "moving fast and break things", and really worked because my tasks were fairly simple and it would have fewer critical points, but thinking now that is harmful when doing more complex things, i should slow down and trust in my 'feeling' more.
Thank you for your comment, sometimes im bit to hard on myself;
I can learn from my mistakes, but some of them are really trivial, i can find better examples in math, like:
In a calculus question, I need to find the volume inside some functions, this type of question is not new, i know how to solve, but somewhere deep in the calculation i change 'integral of sin' to be `cos` instead of `-cos` making the everything more hard to solve and obviously getting the wrong answer.
This kind of thing is currently my biggest problem and i cant find a real way to improve.
I think that the uniqueness is not defined by being unlike others but by being on your on, when yourself process the sintuation and decide to follow it.
And for your second argument, it’s just to easy to follow the computers “orders”, a lot of people would just go for the order because it’s already justified, something along the lines of “I would do different, but the machine told me that everyone that on in that way get something wrong”.
I agree that this type of software would be good when one needs advices, but it would have to be complete trustworthy, giving wrong advices to a suicidal person by example can be devastating (and in this case not even thinking about the manipulation that would be possible by the corporation).
I think a world in this scenario is pretty much a dystopia.
If every person chooses for the better response and action given the a situation how can a individual be unique?
If all husbands reply to a bum in the exactly same way why do you really need a husband? Failing is a big part of being human, sometimes that can cause harm but failing and learning is one of ours core functions.
I rather be good than be you?
(Sorry if i made my post a bit 'agressive', its not my intent, english is not my main language and i still have to learn how to write properly)
A fair distribution of resources and opportunities. I believe that if we do not address this problems soon enough we will be (soon) living in a cyberpunk dystopia.
I'm Brazilian, so my poem favorite poem is in portuguese, its called A Máquina do Mundo (The World's Machine).
Wikipedia as an assert about it:
The most prominent of these later metaphysical poems is A
Máquina do Mundo (The World's Machine). The poem deals with
an anti-Faust referred to in the first person, who receives
the visit of the aforementioned Machine, which stands for all possible knowledge, and the sum of the answers for all the questions which afflict men; in highly dramatic and baroque versification the poem develops only for the anonymous subject to decline the offer of endless knowledge and proceed his gloomy path in the solitary road. It takes the renaissance allegory of the Machine of the World from Portugal's most esteemed poet, Luís de Camões, more precisely, from a canto at the end of his epic masterpiece Os Lusíadas.[0]
Maybe you are moving society to an cyberpunk dystopia, but who knows what you come after that? Maybe after some time this 'new society' stabilize and the world(s) will be a better place.
