I'm the author of IPFS Deploy[0], a zero-config CLI with great developer experience for deploying static websites to IPFS.

- It is recommended by Cloudflare's official docs for their IPFS Gateway
- It got adopted by Protocol Labs (authors of IPFS) who have taken up its maintenance
I'm hoping at some point a brave team of enthusiasts decides to try making a business out of modernizing emacs (code and process), like the onivim2 people are doing for vim.
What do you think of forks like Remacs / emacs-ng?
Neat! Anyone with more understanding can point out differences with statebox[1]? Both seem to be:
- visual and textual
- purely functional
- dataflow-like
I get the feeling that statebox might not be turing complete (guaranteed termination) and have a stronger focus on formal verification. Also, it doesn't seem to have a visual editor yet.
I really want to use Firefox because of Quantum and other Rust goodness, but until they catch up on usability I'm happy to stay with Brave. Tab-to-search is sorely missing in Firefox, and the tab creation and switching experience on Android is awful.
Curious about the suggestion to try plain TeX. Could you expand on what are the advantages? Do you mean it as a learning stepping stone or for actual usage?
If I'm a pedestrian getting my body filmed, 3D-scanned, with potential facial recognition and internal-organs-penetrating sensors added on top, _I'm_ the one who should own that data (and the right to not consent to its collection in the first place). Why are people weirded out by some Google Glass-wearing rando filming them on the sidewalk but ok for everyone behind a wheel to be suddenly promoted to a CCTV omnisensing recorder?
Helping decentralize package managers is Protocol Labs' top priority for IPFS in 2019[1].
Seems very prescient now. Hopefully this gets adopted soon enough, while it's still easy to batch-export stuff out of registries. I really don't want MS owning the most popular editor, git host, "linux desktop", and universal package manager in the world. Edit: oh, and programming language (typescript is eating javascript.)
It will be interesting to see what happens after Starlink and competitors make radio internet ubiquitous. What are they going to do, shoot down satellites?

I should add, since you didn't specifically mention web stuff, that it _can_ be used as a CDN for stuff that is less latency-sensitive, like software package managers. That is in fact, the main focus of 2019 for Protocol Labs, the company behind IPFS.
Good idea! I've been following Web Packaging from a distance, so would need to do some research, but from the looks of it, ipfs-deploy could automate packaging up a directory into an SXG before uploading it to pinners. Gotta figure out how to the signing part though. I'll look into it!
Yes, definitely. I mean, you certainly get better bandwidth and latency depending on popularity and geographic diversity of seeders, and there are even youtube-alternative websites that host videos on IPFS. But for something like browsing from one page to the next, where the payload is small and you want <200ms latency, I think just the DHT lookup might already put you above that budget. I'm guessing though, haven't made any measurements.
If you pin to IPFS and then use a public http gateway like https://cloudflare-ipfs.com, which caches and distributes via their CDN, you'll have a good CDN alternative.
If you just use IPFS directly with a non-CDN'd, non-cached http gateway, the latency will probably be prohibitive for regular web stuff.
