Do you really think that we will all have more time with this shift? I think with AI we will all generate more work for ourselves and not less work. Marc(A16Z) compares this to how building more lanes on a highway results in more traffic not less.
I’m a startup founder where most of our employees are based in India. I don’t condone this move by Razorpay. However, as someone else pointed out, the legal process in India is not robust, and it is biased toward people in power. Here are some constructive ways to avoid situations like this:
1. Register your company outside of India. The US is an excellent option because of the solid legal framework.
2. Encrypt the data. Ask for access from your customers, even for your own support teams.
3. Use international companies for services whenever possible.
It would be great to have a regular process to delete old data if you don’t need it for business purposes, and this is hard to do because you could develop an innovative way to add customer value using the old data you don’t know of today.
We use both Twilio and Plivo in our text messaging products in CallHub. Both are great vendors to work with. We'll not move to Amazon just for a lower price. The things that we value are,
1. Quality of delivery
2. A consistent API across all our telephony needs.
3. Great support when we need it
I especially love the fact that these vendors are constantly innovating and give us early access to those innovations as well. The most recent was Twilio's release of studio.

Wow! This is great. The prices of infrastructure services like AWS, Plivo are mostly falling down. I wonder if these price drops are forced due to competition or if the services expect to see an increase in usage due to price drops.
The Math is correct. Those are the current prices. You are saying that Olacab like companies are able to afford to have low prices because they have investor money to operate at a loss. That may be true too. Yes, it will be interesting to see who can hold on for longer.
We have a reached a stage where rickshaws and cabs are competing for the same market segment, within the city.
In Bangalore, rickshaw fares have been going up, while cab fares have been going down in the past few years. Currently, it costs Rs.13 per KM for a rickshaw[1] and it costs exactly the same, Rs.13 per KM, for a small cab[2] during the day in Bangalore. During the night, rickshaw is 50% more expensive than using a cab.
A cab is clearly a more comfortable ride than a rickshaw. I don't see how the rickshaw business will continue to operate and grow under these conditions.
I'd disable javascript sometimes because it takes up CPU cycles and memory on my laptop and starves my other applications. GMail specifically has gotten so bad that I've started using the HTML version of Gmail just to avoid all the unnecessary javascript cruft.
"Harsha Suryanarayana, popularly known as humblefool to the coding community, and as Lord among his friends and the people close to him. We lost him in an accident on the night of 15th June'14.
Now everybody knows that he was the best coder India has ever produced. He was one of the first red coder from the country and continued to dominate until his last SRM. He was the TCO world finalist twice, and Google Code Jam(GCJ) once. He worked on to make DP his strongest area (for the non-programming people, DP is Dynamic Programming and is one of the toughest things to master in programming). I have had the privilege to spend some time with him and know him more closely and that is what I am going to share in this answer.
For the last one year, Lord was working in a start-up (that he co-founded with Animesh Nayan) MyCodeSchool. I was selected in a 10 day Winter Coding Camp 2013, organized by the company, where he gave awesome lectures. But the 15 days internship MyCodeSchool, Hyderabad, (May-June '14) is how I came to know him more as a person.
Lord had this amazing passion to spread and share knowledge. This was one of his last conversations with Animesh :
Animesh: "If we can make some money, we can help more people,"
Harsha: "May be, we can enable 1000 people to help others."
I also came to know that he gave up Microsoft in his college just to train the college team for ACM ICPC. He never went behind big companies, his wife works at Google and he could have easily been a Googler himself. He worked for his passion. "You do not need too much to live. It's all the social conditioning that makes you desire a big job and a fat salary. You can live with less and be free." This is what he used to say.
Contrary to the second part of his TC handle(humblefool), the first part is completely correct. Lord is the most humble person I have ever met. With the knowledge and experience that he had, he could have easily commanded us all. But instead, he was always open to us, and on many instances came for our opinions and suggestions. You would never know that you were sitting next to a person of his stature.
Now you will never associate such a geek in other domains. But Lord was awesome in every field. Maybe that is why he is called Lord. Many know that I defeated him once in chess(that too on time) because I posted it on facebook. No one except me knows the second part of the story. He came back strong and forced me to resign from that game. Played tennis and he beat us all most of the time. Always a winner in stratego. Banged on karaoke, he hit the best score 98 twice (even without any practice). He single handedly won Counter Strike against two of us (FYI, we are not noob at CS). He was a complete all-rounder.
His thoughts were always full of clarity and vision. I had a half an hour bike ride with him,(we had all gone to Prasad's for a movie, and not everyone could fit in the car, so I was the fortunate one to come with him), I discussed my career and future plans with him, and he made it crystal clear for me.
Memories flashback, as I write, and take me to his birthday, we had planned a surprise for him. Never had I imagined that it would be his last. A photo on his birthday treat. (Harsha is the righmost).
Harsha is a true legend. He has been an inspiration and idol of many indian programmers. And as Animesh puts in, "He has chosen to go to heaven because God needed a genius programmer there".

Due to the permanent nature of bitcoin transactions, I wonder if all bitcoins stored in banks must enable multi-signature transactions. That way the money can leave the bank only if there are 2 thefts. 2 thefts are exponentially harder to pull off because second signature can be stored in different places by different people.
Interesting that coursera mentions that they only have a IP address block. It seems like they just want people to workaround that and access the courses.
The site http://www.darkmail.info/ is served over http and not https. If someone has access to the pipe, it would be easy get the email addresses of people who submit their email addresses at that site.
We are currently testing with 50 calls per second(cps) and Plivo just eats it up! We'll crank it up more later this month. I don't know what is the max cps Plivo can handle though.
Here is a story from using the Plivo APIs, that convinced me that these guys are for enterprises and serious businesses.
We were looking at different telephony APIs to build a highly concurrent calling system. With Twilio, we could only send one phone number in a single http call. That was a bummer. With Plivo, we could send as many phone numbers as a http POST can handle, and let their APIs handle the high number of calls per second. We were pleasantly surprised that they do so much of the heavy lifting.
