Not very reliable. The remote only had four buttons (volume up/down, channel up/down) and various sounds like kitchen appliances, flushing toilets, and jingling keys would be interpreted as remote control actions by the TV.
My grandfather had one; he seemed to find it more entertaining to talk to people about it than to actual use it.
While I could be wrong (and often am) I don't think there's a way to tell which track segments are switched on/off or which station platforms are in "hold" mode from the GTFS feed.
Wish they had more technical details here. IE 9 was an update just like the Windows 10 October 2018 update, but applies as far back as Vista. IE 9 is much more compliant with modern ECMAScript standards than IE 8 ever was.
IE has been available as a COM component in Windows applications for ages -- at least as far back as XP -- so it could be done.

As much as I loved text adventures back in the day, I've found the real-life version of interactive fiction -- "immersive" fiction -- more intoxicating and memorable. I still think about "The Jejune Institute" in San Francisco frequently, and that ended years ago.
Partial counterpoint: I didn't notice the cameras in the sandbox, so I happily covered them up by accident. It just "felt right" to me for whatever reason to decorate the corners. Oops.
