replace "saving 50k" with "eliminating tech debt" for many
we all know we could rebuild or refactor systems to improve them, but all we would be doing is spending time and money to earn no more money, because the "improved" product/service wouldn't appear different to the outside world
my new attitude is to not even both with tech debt unless the product will be enhanced or improved in some user-obvious way
this is starting to smell like "fake concern"...technically-astute people who are nonetheless ignorant of this tech trying to "participate" by shrieking in terror over imagined dangers
There seems to be something everyone is missing here:
Eventually, ALL car manufacturers are going to "own" their screens
CarPlay and Android Auto were stopgaps, hope you enjoyed them
I enjoy using Android Auto in my '22 Civic, but I also know that the only reason Honda supports it is because they just haven't built out their replacement tech yet. They will (or license what GM is building).
Honda, Toyota, Ford, Mercedes...everyone...they are all going to own (and monetize) that center console. They don't care what HN thinks and they know that five years after the transition, no one will remember or care.
Doesn't anyone remember the story a few months back of carmakers rebufffing Apple's attempts to integrate CarPlay better? They don't want Apple owning the center screen! If you really really like CarPlay, keep praying for the Apple Car.
Everyone digging in their heels on this will be like the people who swore to never give up manual stick.

Canadian culture is defined purely and only as contrasting itself to the US
it isn't just business competitiveness, its anything...healthcare, public safety, the environment...ask any Canadian about their thoughts on these (or any) topics and the answer provided will be a contrast to the same issue in the US
this has resulted in a unwarranted pride and willingness to turn Canadian society inwards on itself, supposedly to protect itself from ugly Americans
the Globe And Mail nailed it with an article titled something like "Canada: Smug For No Good Reason"
Canadians are discovering the pitfalls of basing a national culture on nothing more than being appalled by the US...all that is left over is a maniacal obsession with total mediocrity

I actually agree with Armstrong here - the SEC has had plenty of time to assess the market for crypto products and offer clear rules...it almost feels like the indecisiveness is an intentional policy used to cow the industry.
Well one example is infrastructure...if a formerly-rural area gets a gradual accumulation of homes, chances are they are all on septic systems...so people are using their property for waste water recycling, and there is a limit to how dense this type of living can be.
I grew up just outside a decent-sized city in Canada, now living in Texas...both places, on septic. Its not rare.
