The premise that it hurts readers of your code is specious at best. Your syntax highlighting or lack thereof does not necessarily match their syntax highlighting or lack thereof.

And it's been 17 years since this was published. We have actual data on a worldwide programming population. This concern about the harm of syntax highlighting has not shown itself. I'd even contend the opposite to be true.
