The first paragraph made me close the tab. I'm glad he put it up top, so I didn't needlessly waste my time with such a douche. I should have known better than to click on a Cringely story.

Agreed. He put his worst face forward. The article is all uphill from there.
I disagree. Right or wrong on this point, he's engaging in a bit of analysis -- which is, after all, his job. I think Steve would respect that (even if, from a PR/marketing standpoint, he didn't particularly like it -- re Apple's closed-mouth position on unreleased product and marketing).
Bob knew Steve, pretty well. Both adults, who can handle more than one dimension concurrently.
(P.S. I didn't know Steve, and I know Bob only through a few old emails. So, this is just my opinion.
As long as I've gone this far, I'll add that I find the press's read of the 4S misleading. The guts are significantly changed; people seem to be having a hissy fit because the shell was not. Good grief -- the shell has already had X revisions to get pretty darned good.)

As much as I don't think it will happen, I can certainly imagine a pre-recorded iPhone 5 announcement starting with Jobs saying that. Realistically, there are too many cues that it won't happen, especially the announced free 3G(S).

I assume you mean "I’m sure the phone will appear in a week or two" in reference to the iPhone 5. That's incredibly bold. Maybe this spring, but in two weeks?
If they do that, there will be a recorded message from him. He wouldn't miss this for nothing.
