i am so grateful for this man's effort and content. his ability to distill topics into super accessible and actionable nuggets of information is something i've never really experienced before. it's almost too good to be true - i'm a little worried there's some guruism going on that's subtly increasing my opinion of him (granted he's super charismatic, well spoken, and sharp, but still)

boy howdy, with all the flak i hear about this and the awesome talent in tech, you'd figure an entrepreneur or 1000 would take a stab at this, make it better, charge less. apparently there's gazillions to be made by even charging 50 percent of what AWS does.
so, when should we expect this gloriously efficient competitive market to kick in to action?
my guess is that the AWS ecosystem, despite "price gouging", is simply the best and will be because this is really hard, non-glorious engineering, where solid reliability actually matters. anyone who wants to can go ahead and co-lo, so, whatever. people who want cloud will pay, and those who can't or won't, will not.

how about - bear with me - wearing a mask is merely /one/ component of not being mass surveilled, and is part of several layers, each one of which is clearly helpful although each one independently may not solve the problem entirely?
there are also eg privacy advocates who may now be able to wear masks without too much hassle for the foreseeable future to defeat mass surveillance.
for example, pre pandemic, police in Berlin would absolutely stop and harass anyone wearing a mask in a U station/train; that'd be extremely awkward going forward, at least for a little bit.

i consider all tech - all forums, social media, etc. - to be similar to a special forces group (or pick your favorite non-violent elite group). it's best deployed with a clear objective in mind - learn more about Haskell from gurus, see how S.V. is reacting to tech workers/wages changing, get a job or work from monthly threads - until either the effort is a success, more time/energy can/should be brought to bear, or it can be easily aborted without much fanfare.
so, what do you want? if it's to network, connect, learn, debate, get a new job - do that, and avoid the addictive type stuff like refreshing every 10 mins, etc. if it's to avoid boredom, well... tread carefully.

impossible is focusing on restaurants more than mass market. observe eg partnerships with chefs/restaurants. a fairly large amount of beef in the US is consumed in restaurants/made to order type stuff; that's what they're attacking
you seemed to have missed the industrial part of the original comment. there is a reason you haven't waltzed into the horrible facilities that end up in documentaries, etc., to include: they are not approved on any non-cable network due to gore etc., not approved on Facebook, YouTube ToS (graphic violence), ag-gag laws, and so forth. you are not invited.
and let's not kid ourselves - with 50+ /billion/ land animals killed per year, almost all of which are factory farmed, the idea that joe farmer is going to pick up the tab with his 100 chickens isn't realistic, or that joe hunter is going to make a dent in that number.
as far as animals dying when crops are harvested, yeah, we can and should do better. at least they weren't castrated without anesthesia or lived their entire lives in gestation crates or getting inseminated (pigs), beak shaved off (chickens), or eyes cut off so they grow faster (crustaceans). the suffering isn't comparable; comparing it as such is asinine.
nah, the DC office's tech talent ain't bad, although like most engineers they're not the best at efficiently communicating technical stuff to, say, staff lawyers
the web UI, logging, graphs, top blocked sites/queries are all really nice to have and are great for diagnosing badly behaving apps/clients/websites.
i am sure that this is all possible using some slick openWRT command line/LUA magic/plugins/god knows what, but my time isn't free, and i'm not interested in hacking that all together on the same device that provides internet access.

all of this is fueled on speculation, and picking arbitrary date ranges and prices on speculation as a basis for comparison outside of relative speculative performance is not super useful - as recent events have shown, things can move quickly based on purely market- and popularity based events.
yeah, but you're cleverly (or nefariously) pitching this as both a neutral unit of measure - say, $/square meter in the US - then right away using it as a non-neutral measurement based on the individual (/your/ $60k - as if it was "ours" to begin with). that's not really appropriate.
