It's not necessarily that the ads aren't effective but their reporting of ROI has been off in my experiences. I've been running attribution surveys on the e-commerce sites I own [1] and the results have never matched up with what FB or Google reports back. Some of it may just be bias but I can definitely how some rounding errors may start to creep in with large numbers.
On site surveys have been effective for us[1]. Ultimately this is a super general question and it depends on: 1. What data you want to collect 2. Where you place your poll (if it's on site) 3. What questions you ask.
That sounds awesome! If you're interested it would be cool if you put on an event for us all on JQBX [1] one day :) shoot me an email if you want and I can set it up.

I built JQBX (https://www.jqbx.fm) so I think about streaming, money, and the law a lot. The industry is very focused on siphoning off as much cash from the musician as possible. That being said, in the age of streaming that seems like a common model (Psy got $2 mil for 2 billion views!?). I think direct sales is the most promising future for artists compensation given that there are so many new sales and social channels. Bandcamp is does good work and if you're going to buy music (and the artist is on there) you should probably do it there. I know I'm a small fish but I'm integrating on some direct to artist sales features currently to at least help the cause.
An anecdote: My father broke his collarbone (in a real bike) and I got him a peloton to be a safer replacement. After about an hour of introduction to the product he now uses it every day and so does my mother, who has never biked in her life. I don't get the appeal necessarily but any new product that can hook someone in their generation is positive signal IMO.
With a large enough differential between customer #1 and customer #2 it becomes a lot of cash to leave on the table if you don't renegotiate. But I don't know the numbers and you're right to point out that everything could potentially go wrong, but IMO it's not a sure thing and at least this report is a step in the right direction not the wrong one.
Okay sure the full picture isn't all sunshine (I didn't say I'd buy the stock) but it's not bad news either. With the lions share of the streaming market and low churn rate I would expect they can negotiate some better deals (or possibly get enough of an edge to raise prices).
This is great news IMO. Spotify's platform is leagues better than apple music. Also I know they don't have the best track record w/ third party apps but Spotify also offers the most comprehensive API when compared to the other major streaming services. This lets people like me make apps[1] which (I think) attract more subscribers and create a stronger network. That being said I don't know if I would run out and buy the stock... there's still serious competition and the music labels run their business like the mob.
Same preface (not exactly popular...yet) but the JQBX mobile apps: https://www.jqbx.fm are built with RN. The only "native" parts are a bridge for playing audio but I'm not sure if that's what you meant by "fully" RN or not.
Using your product daily is essential not only to help steer the ship on what to build but also to cue you in on what's buggy / inefficient. I have the good fortune of having a live chat interface (product is: https://www.jqbx.fm) so I get pretty quick feedback if something that's been pushed is causing anyone any issues. However to keep bugs to a minimum I keep most of the logic client side and have a dev environment that I can run on production- I usually test a version for a couple days (see: eat your own dogfood) before releasing anything. Also forcing yourself to review your own code is a good skill and has helped catch some issues right before pulling the trigger.
I want to do it but it's tricky since I would need 1. some sort of universal identifier for each track so I can keep everyone in sync 2. API access to search, play, pause and seek. TBH I'm not sure if that's possible but I'll definitely look into it once I take care of the remaining high priority issues/features.
Thanks, I'm glad you're liking it the way it is now!
I totally agree that the colors are in a slightly awkward place. The design sort of grew from where I originally started and now I think I need to find a different, maybe less saturated, shade of dark blue to put everywhere.
Hey- it still works the same way w/ multiple DJ's. I thought about adding another 'mode' for a single queue (similar to how soundbounce used to work) but it's put on hold for now while I clean up some of the other details and make things more stable overall. It may come eventually but it'll probably be a few months.
A quick hack would be to make your Queue playlist collaborative and then multiple people could update it- but that may not be exactly what you're looking for either.
You actually can do that already- I think I just need to make it more obvious. If you're an admin of a room you can 'broadcast' a message to all the people who have saved your room. The message gets sent via email to those users. Keep the feedback coming though if you have more- just shoot me an email.
For life it's: HN, reddit, WSJ, NYTimes
It does help to pause the loop for as long as possible though. I think the frequency of checking increases linearly with anxiety.
