Fun Fact: The first step-by-step switch and indeed the very first automatic telephone exchange was invented by Almon Strowger.
Almon Strowger was an undertaker by trade. He became convinced that the manual telephone exchange operator, who was the daughter of the only other undertaker in town, was deliberately directing all calls for "the undertaker" to her father's practice instead of dividing them equally between the two as was standard practice at the time.
Strowger decided that he needed to invent a way for telephone customers to dial the number themselves and used cut out pieces of paper to represent the electrical contacts so that he could work out how the equipment should work.
If I remember correctly, Strowger was granted a patent for his automatic telephone exchange in 1929.

I am not as smart as you but still after spending a decade in industry learned few things on my way.
- your job can'not satisfy you always. There are good jobs and bad jobs. But good job can become a bad one in overnight. Nothig is permanent. So don't get attached to it, instead love your craft.
- the software domain is the easiest one to experiment. Having a computer and internet is enough to build whatever you want. If you wanna have kick by writing good code, just get it from your own project.
It is not about only Vim as editor but Vim as keybindings too. Nowdays, most of all modern IDEs support Vim keybindings along well integrated IDE features.
I don't know what is the last time you used linux but lately there is great improvements in user experience. I know non-techie people using Linux Mint/ubuntu

In human body, new cells are created every day which is not case with elastic band. Best anology could be economy. If you keep creating wealth and not spending one day you reach your limitations. Continously churning and creating gives boost to economy.
I found asian philosophies very interesting in this regard. There is an interesting Hindu philosophy about 4 states - awake, sleep, dream and turiya. In below video, lecturer explained them very beautifully.

In company as big and old as Boeing,many teams work isolated and independently. I don't belive knowledge gets shared that easily. Also what I read about Boeing culture (I forgot where but reddit ama I guess), it was declined way back.
Blaming the problem on $9 offshore engineer really look bad on company. I have worked with $5 engineers as well as $100 engineers in past. As long as you don't have proper verification proess both can screw the system. I blame it on company executives who sidelined safety altogether.
Agree with this. And as day passes, pressure gets built to finish work and if you don't, you can't enjoy remaining day & night. At least with office setup, once you leave it physically, you also leave it mentally but with work from home setup that is not possible. Still it is good to have wfh option for emergencies. so yeah mix of both.
I guess this is the reason in Germany it is very common to run your own business when you are employed while countries like India most of companies add very brutal moonlighting clause in job agreement.
