even though it's from 2022, it still resonates with how I got fired just recently. something that Warhammer's Imperium calls out and does with no shame, publicly, is being built out silently or with euphemisms in our world.
ever more reasons to appreciate Warhammer as an unfortunate parody of our own little rock ball. and here I am, jobless, for calling Claude Code "a decent search engine"
Linux is indeed getting better, but all the commercial software (and open source projects that happen to have AGENTS.md (cough Vicinae cough)) keep surprising me with random bugs
well, I've been working on the Zig compiler lately, there you have to swear off using AI in any capacity. even your tab-complete, yes. I find that yes, I'm a little slower with regexes instead of GPT mini/Luna models as a find/replace engine, but I am quickly getting grasp of it, and I see the future where I'm faster with Neovim and ripgrep than Codex. the structure of the standard library is super-logical and the code is eye-wateringly readable. I don't even feel the need in, or will to, use Codex in any capacity when working on such a great project. DVUI is also great to work with.
that said, I also used to work in environments where even Claude Opus tripped over itself when trying to untangle its own slop. that made me looking forward to AI going bust and folding back into tab-complete. that bubble revealed a lot of projects that always were slop, even before AI. the LLM policy became a great proxy of the quality standard the codebase and the community upholds itself to
obligatory correction: the semiconductor layer is still owned by TSMC and Samsung. Google sketches chip designs for them to implement - that's the lowest layer they control. I am not denying that this is impressive.
that Pi extension, by contrast, gives you a popup whenever an agent tries to access something outside the current working directory and send a network request. that depends on configuration. also if agent tries to ssh into something that will also send a request for access, so child processes are covered
you really have to catch the moment to do this, and there must be someone else who is supportive of this idea.
my mother recently got served a quite... disturbing video on Facebook. I won't get into details of the vid. what I can tell is that she was so dazed that she didn't even immediately understand me when I asked her, "delete Facebook and Instagram immediately or else they will think you like it and will serve you more." she kept replaying this video in her head. in a moment, I thought I wouldn't make her snap out.
for context, she is a damned Reels addict with war-induced traumas. (Ukrainian here.) she agreed to delete Facebook but decided to keep Instagram. we frequently pick bones about her sending stupid Reels and me hating them with passion. and every time I said "delete Instagram and your life will go up," she brought up scandals until she talked to a therapist.

depends. I, for one, take control of what I consume on social media. Bluesky's design allows this. YouTube also, if you turn off recommendations, lose watch history, and vet your subscriptions

yeah, Mitchell is very pro-AI, but he is thoughtful, and he sometimes highlights the difference between Zig's and Ghostty's approaches to LLMs (outright ban vs taming)
