Duck duck go is weird. They have been posting the same jobs for 2 years. Reading up on glassdoor, older HN comments etc people suspect they aren't really hiring. That and they make you do long writeups for the application. Pretty fishy.
Now I want to go inside a sauna, put some clay on my body. Detox, clean, mmmm and moisturize when done. Then get into freshly washed Egyptian cotton sheets to have a good night's sleep for 8 hours.
So in other words, banks reinvest in the next hot thing hoping to make a buck?
Seems analogous to what u say about crypto investing in the next hot new 'coin', which very well is just a proxy to people trying to build something of value.
The question to ask is has software gotten better? I say yes, cloud, mobile and web have exploded and are if much higher quality than they were in the past.
So I wouldn't say we've screwed ourselves.

That's insane. I'd like to visit Iceland, but I think it's better to just go visit for a couple of weeks and then bail. Remote working in a cold and expensive country seems counter intuitive.
Give me word class beaches, great weather and cheap cost of living....South East Asia here I come!
It's rediculous.
