I like the general recommendations here but think it really undersells how hard it is to switch in many cases - the time recommendation are comically short. Yes, going to a new site instead of a Google site might only take a minute of your time to sign up but moving all your data over and learning a new, sometimes inferior tool can take weeks.
The phonic issue is absurd, can you imagine if an entire industry followed a fad for years with minimal pushback? Now, if you'll excuse me I've been in a cave for a few years and need to check my crypto balances.
I switched from the Move to the Studio (freestanding version) and the form feedback triggers __slightly__ more often but it's still not worth bothering about imo. the rep counting not working bothers me way more.
There's been a steady attrition of celebrities and other major players from the platform. social media platforms don't die overnight, they die over time.
The average person is not capable of self-hosting software and SaaS is much nicer looking / more fully features 99% of the time. I say this as someone who loves self-hosting and self hosts most of my own stuff.
Cities subsidizing maker spaces would solve the wood/metal workign part of this well, and I live in a pretty dense part of the city that has a community garden down the street.
