What's funny: the whole article reminds me something Emacs-ish in spirit.

Fascination in combination of interesting tools with very interesting tools in a very very unconventional workflow.

I like it.

I'm certain that I will not use the same workflow but it gave me ideas for my own.

Platonov is "must read" if you interested in Russian literature but he's not that great.

Vladimir Sorokin wrote that he was fascinated by Platonov but soon discovered that it's too easy to imitate Platonov style.

Platonov chapter in "Blue Lard" is even more Platonov than Platonov himself.

Disregard what I said I encourage to read "Chevengur" - it's super.

"Exceptions should be used exceptionally" - I think golang `panic-recover` does exactly this.

They made using `panic` intentionally hard.

Pandas is a great library but I was not able to make myself love its data query API.

I discovered that duckdb can make queries to pandas dataframes in SQL (postgresql parser) and do it faster than pandas itself.

Now I have zero motivation pandas queries.

Maybe for coloring or smth like that

You're correct: omz adds not a lot to vanilla zsh.

It consists of: - collection of plugins/themes - auto update - way to customize them

Everything could be done directly in .zshrc, it's just a bit more convinient

I had exactly same experience: nvm and conda. Both are unrelated to oh-my-zsh completely: they were configured in .zshrc directly

I heard a lot about slowness of oh-my-zsh but never experienced it myself.

I had slow starts when I added nvm completion to .zshrc and .. maybe conda environment but that was unrelated to oh-my-zsh

I suspect it was something similar: he had real asthma during childhood but continued taking meds when they were not really needed.

I think every natural language is irregular when it comes to numbers.

And about Japanese: you forgot about counters for men, animals, flat things and so on.

You have ichi-ippiku-ippon-hitory - issai And absolutely fascinating "system" for "years old" - everything starts with -sai but 20 years is "hatachi"!

My son "forgot" his asthma after one dose of LSD. Literally - 1.5 year and no problems.

That was absolutely unexpected effect. I still don't know what to think about it.

The only problem with PowerShell (for me) - it came too late. If it was released with .NET 2.0 or 3.0 - maybe I used it more.

When it appeared I already used bash(from git distribution) and python for scripting tasks

The interesting point for me was:

I saw something similar: RAID array with 5 disks and 3 spare disks. One night controller detected failure, ejected one drive and replaced with spare. After rebuild of RAID it ejected another disk and then another. In an hour all spare disks were used and on fourth failure it stopped work

What was probability of such series of failures?
