Mine only worked when I added [this][1]:

    set t_ZH=^[[3m

before `highlight Comment cterm=italic`.

I was recently wondering how I'd make some keywords italic, like VSCode, which italicizes `self.foo` and others in Python. This thread came at the right time. I found this [post][2] that may help, in combination with OP.

I don't pirate music anymore for the same reason. However, I also don't listen to music as I used to. I usually use Spotify to listen to what I already know, not so much to find new stuff. Before, I used to dive in depth into an artist/band, starting from their greatest hits. Once I got the band vocabulary, I'd download the albums chronologically and listened to every track, sometimes more than once until I got familiar with it. Now I don't do it with as much scrutiny, which is interesting since Spotify has all albums very well organized and even the discovery playlist. It would be much easier and better.

Is IKEA effect at play? Without Spotify, I would only start another artist when I finished the current one. So, with Spotify it becomes an information management problem due to the large amount of albums available at a click. Or it could just be that my life has changed and I don't have a time slot dedicated to music anymore.

Abstract:

We show that walls, and other obstructions with edges, can be exploited as naturally-occurring “cameras” that reveal the hidden scenes beyond them. In particular, we demonstrate methods for using the subtle spatio-temporal radiance variations that arise on the ground at the base of a wall’s edge to construct a one-dimensional video of the hidden scene behind the wall. The resulting technique can be used for a variety of applications in diverse physical settings. From standard RGB video recordings, we use edge cameras to recover 1-D videos that reveal the number and trajectories of people moving in an occluded scene. We further show that adjacent wall edges, such as those that arise in the case of an open doorway, yield a stereo camera from which the 2-D location of hidden, moving objects can be recovered. We demonstrate our technique in a number of indoor and outdoor environments involving varied floor surfaces and illumination conditions.

A bit late to the party, but posting for reference in case someone finds this post in the future. For Ubuntu, I did as the following:

1. Created the chrome folder at `~/.mozilla/<your-profile-id>.default/`

2. Created `~/.mozilla/<your-profile-id>.default/chrome/userChrome.css` and added

    @namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

at the top of the file.

3. Added customizations after this line. The resulting file will be like:

I'm not sure if I understood this one correctly. Is it like, instead of trying to find the best time to invest, like waiting for something huge to happen, just invest every now and then when you are able to do it. Is that it?

What are your thoughts on Vivaldi?

I try it occasionally and I'm enjoying it. Most tools come out of the box, like Adblock, screenshot, window tiling, and mouse gestures. Not sure if the Adblock is as good as uBlock origin, though. Some new features like an improved history (haven't used thoroughly yet) and tab stacking.

It still is a bit buggy for me on Ubuntu 16.04. Sometimes when playing videos the window flickers.

Take a look at this tutorial [1]. It will teach you some shortcuts, a bit of shell expansion, and help you set sane defaults in bash. One that I'm particular fond is to set

  "\e[A": history-search-backward 
  "\e[B": history-search-forward

in your ~/.inputrc. So, if you are typing a command which begins with "git", it will only search in history for commands that start with git (instead of returning all commands that may include the string 'git' like Ctrl+r). Having trouble trying to remember that option you passed to `git log`? Just type in `git log` and press the up arrow to find your last usages.

I think it is also helpful to learn Emacs or vim keybindings. I use Emacs keybindings in bash a lot (enabled by default). I have summarized the ones that I used more often in a previous comment [2].

I hope my comment didn't look like I was calling you out about these ideas. I was just excited at this coincidence and wanted to share it. They went completely unnoticed to me from watching just the movies. Makes them even better (including the sequels :P).

From some discussions I've seen, it seems that the human battery idea was introduced in the last minutes by executive meddling. The original idea by the Wachowskis was exactly what you described: a way of the machines protect themselves from humanity attacking them again, while also giving humanity a paradise as mercy and gratitude. It was never the machines' intention to rebel and attack the humans; they only attacked back as self-protection.

The [Machine War][1] describes how it was in the early days. The conflict started when a robot killed its human masters because they were planning to destroy it and replace by a newer model. That started a Machine Civil Rights Movements, but humanity had become lazy and arrogant due to the new lifestyle yielded by the creation of AI. Most humans refused to acknowledge the robots and the few human sympathizers who did were silenced. It's a great read/watch (if you see the anime), but I better stop here so I don't spoil anything.

After reading this, that has become my single concern about the future with AI: will humanity be able to treat and respect the machines as equals?
