They portray 5h charging at home as a downside. Something to scorn at. But, how long does it take to fill up a diesel truck at home? I haven’t gone to a gas station since getting an EV a few years ago. It trickle charges while I sleep. This is easily the biggest convenience.
1. They have left over capacity that will go unused otherwise. Most users have hit their limits before the end of the week. Might as well get some use out of the servers.
2. A backend change made migrating usage tracking hard, inaccurate, or impossible.
3. A usage tracking issue meant the usage wasn’t accurate anyway and they needed a reset to save face / avoid contract breach.
The addiction or marketing strategy seems too clever. Why explain something with cleverness that can be explained by laziness or stupidity.
I run Windows on all my computers but was pleasantly surprised by the desktop mode on SteamOS. The incredible number of options on a simple config dialog such as changing the keyboard layout was incredibly impressive (which isn’t SteamOS specific but rather a Gnome thing?).
Every time I try one of the newer models I don’t want to go back. What is the value of a dumper model? It makes more mistakes. Wastes more of my time. At anything below Opus 4.8 I’m better of writing code myself. As a tools, it needs to outperform me. Unfortunately, it tends to be lazy. Which is rather ironic from a machine. We taught it well. Alignment is not an issue :’)
Absolutely, but more focused on smaller groups. Family and friends. I think it has to do with the encryption scheme. Large groups are probably tricky. Therefore the app isn’t built for them. But small groups are perfectly fine.
Agreed. I don’t see the appeal compared to Signal. Although, Signal is also sketchy with an operating cost in the tens of millions of dollars per year. Where does the money come from?
Remember people. We didn’t die form the 2k bug. We didn’t die when the Maya calendar ran out. We didn’t die from that asteroid or the other. Spreading fear is a very old pastime. How is to say AI won’t hit a wall in 6 months and we’re left with barley passable code parrots forever?
I play a lot. Competitive shooters mostly. Most of them are unplayable for one or two reasons. Cross play (controllers with aim assist) and cheaters. As a PC player I would like to see no aim assist and actual consequences for cheating. I’ll gladly verify my real world identity, if it meant cheaters where banned once and forever. I’ve heard this is how it works in Korea (claim not verified) and could see it work here too as most of Europe has access to very UX friendly state sponsored digital ID.
If there were actual stakes to cheating, it would be less prevalent. Now you can create another account and keep playing. Often for free!
On a side note. How come replay analysis doesn’t catch more cheaters?
It seems a lot of people are doing amazing things with Patreon. Share some things for free (free as in beer) then have a paid tier for those who want more. Convince us you’re worthy, then we’ll give you money willingly.
Im pretty sure it is illegal. In my understanding, it must be equally easy to reject and accept. And the website MUST continue working under either choice. Which is not the case here.
I think the lawmakers should have made all forms of tracking illegal instead. That would make law writing and following easier. And closer to the spirit of what they are trying to accomplish and what everyone wants (except you Silicon Valley O.o)
Me and my friend wanted git for a game project. Setting up a VPN for this felt overkill. Turns out git provides a very nice transport abstraction though. So I built an iroh transport for git. Now we can push directly to a shared repo running on an old computer behind NAT. All for free.
This makes me sad. We have these type safe languages, then a DB comes along and brakes the type barrier. What are we to do? Property attributes and an ORM? Is there a Linq to SQL thing?
I think the opposite is in order. Ban phones with screens for those over 18 (driving limit). Phones are a drug that people cannot seem to let go off. Even when driving. Kids don’t have cars. Perhaps a trade? A phone or a car?
All the extra empty space everywhere. Some websites are impossibly empty. They look zoomed in. This is super annoying.
The loss of a clear design language for desktop apps is also frustrating. Windows XP apps tended to use standard Windows controls, in more or less the same way. Modern apps though are all spaced out HTML/WPF CSS styled wannabe websites.
We cannot solve complexity with empty space and style sheets.
Also this glass thing on iOS. Definitely under cooked. The keyboard doesn’t even fill out the bottom corners of the screen.
Volvo cars (not AB Volvo, the trucks, boats, and excavators maker) was sold to Ford and then to Chinese Geely. A lot of modern Volvo cars are therefore designed and engineered elsewhere to various degrees. Some are even wholly designed and produced in China. Others are not. I’ve heard this new one is more on the Swedish side. Even the motor is supposedly made here, at-least for the once produced in Gothenburg.
