Was nostalgic recently for fortune spitting out at the top of my old slackware shell. So I added it to my Ubuntu VPS shell. Let's just say, my sense of humor has changed a lot since I was 16. But 25% of the time I find them amusing.
I have a strong hunch the US had known about them for a long time and maybe decided it’s better to let them hang out so they can be studied and secretly test measures against them, versus reveal response patterns and weapons capabilities. But something recently has made that calculus change.

Edit: WSJ is now reporting unnamed sources confirmed Alaska was a metallic balloon w suspended payload.
Sunk so many hours into fy_iceworld. I never enjoyed sitting around and waiting for rounds to end on normal maps. Loved the pace of iceworld and awp_map.
And using headphones on iceworld gave you wallhack like abilities.
What’s odd about it for me is not the content or wording (seems to point out pretty common issues with intensive breathing), it’s more the fact that it’s not presented to the user during onboarding in a meaningful or noticeable way.
I have the same watch, same issue. Just discovered it tonight while trying to enable E2EE. Presumably it’s because the 3 doesn’t receive watchOS updates anymore as a discontinued product, so it can’t participate in the new E2EE “pipeline”
Exact same reason I stopped using pi-hole. It bugged out Google shopping and my partner complained. And the whitelisting / access control is annoying UX imo so I went back to normal DNS. Might return to it eventually but not enable it for every dhcp client.
Edit: and her iPhone changes its MAC address randomly so the access control was tricky to maintain.
Still in print as far as I know. These days the physical catalog is very difficult to get from McMaster. They probably make them in very low quantities and hand select who gets them, maybe based on lifetime spend / org size, or so I’ve heard.
I believe the right click method for opening an unsigned app no longer works as of MacOS Ventura. It appears to work on your own computer but once someone downloads it and tries to run on a new computer, you can’t get around it through regular UI, I think.
I’ve always been curious to learn more about Matthias’s RIM days. I might have read somewhere he was responsible for low level radio design / engineering, as a very very early employee. Every once in awhile his electronics knowledge kinda sneaks out in a video and you know it’s the tip of an iceberg of knowledge he has no interest in revealing.
It makes me wonder how much “infrastructure runway” a company like Twitter has. If every engineer resigns, how long will it take before the infrastructure stops working autonomously… server/DB hard drives fill up or crash, PSUs die, high maintenance processes grind to a haunt, network capacity stops scaling, etc.
I always read statements like “sorry we can’t release this ground breaking technology to the public, you simply can’t handle its power and repercussions” as the AI industry low key flex.
