I will say that I take issue with the fact that several of the more popular trails/areas where permits are issued by lottery. Recreation.gov charges a $10 lottery fee, which you pay even if you don’t get a permit, on top of the fee for the actual permit.
I wish I were back in San Diego, I'd love to get back in the water. Sadly I'm in the gulf coast, so not much here in the way of surf. I'm thinking of building a longboard though.
In my experience astrodynamics was always taught (undergrad) by ignoring the mass of the spacecraft entirely, since when calculating the forces the mass of the spacecraft and fuel was negligible compared to the mass of the planets.
I mean if research also shows that switching times twice a year doesn't save money either, then it probably makes sense to transition for quality of life purposes.
Reading about the training and preparation, both physical and mental, that astronauts do is pretty inspirational. Astronauts are examples of peak human beings.
That makes sense, but is there a way to quantify that? I've always had the notion that something like a roadside sobriety test is rather subjective. I know that if I were in the situation of being suspected of a DUI (which I hope I never am), I would want a clear, quantifiable test, with a low margin of error.
As nice as it would be to have a reliable nonlethal alternative to firearms, there simply are no nonlethal weapons capable of stopping someone who is presenting an immediate threat. Tranquilizers and anesthesia are administered by an anesthesiologist, a doctor trained to determine a dosage based on a person's body mass. Too much of a dose, or even administering it too quickly can cause serious complications, or even death. Even under the controlled environment of an operating room 1/20 patients die under full anesthesia a year.
Sadly, the most reliable method of stopping a person presenting a threat is with a firearm.
I really wish the "Who is Hiring" threads had a more unified formatting, to make it easier to search (and collect data) for certain things, especially location.
