Maybe those improvements never goes anywhere because whenever someone tries to make some noise about the problems they are meet with this superior attitude. The people who know about it and act likes everything is fine, when not to being smug about it, are the ones who should be feeling bad.

No, I don't think HN is very smart in this regard. Holding an opinion that is seen as devaluing the state of software on HN will get you knee-jerk downvotes and subsequent hellbanning.

I dislike NSA a lot, but it's not really their fault everything is broken. It seems like people are more upset with the fact that you can't, in good faith, ignore it anymore rather than the actual insecurity itself.

Since it's Vogue they of course use it because of the popularity of the term "fashionista". Both -ist, in English, and -ista, in Spanish and other languages, comes from Latin. The English use of -ista do come from foreign groups, but the meaning is somewhat different. In English an -ist is generally someone who does something or holds a certain view, while a -ista is someone who supports or follows something.

Artist - Someone who makes and/or performs art. Modista (in Spanish) - Some who makes clothes, i.e. a fashion designer. (Mod- means fashion in many languages). Fashionista - Someone who follows fashion.

But more than anything, as I said "fashionista" -> "Snowdenista".

It's not just because they are a big company though. The "community", the industry and the government all share blame for the lack of liability for software.

Edit: It's pretty bad form to downvote new accounts becuase you disagree. Imagine if I didn't know about hellbanning.

Ask yourself what open source licenses, corporate EULAs and the NSAs defense have in common. The best hope here is that Lenovo explicitly promised someone something they didn't keep.

Get out of tech, at least for a while, it's a toxic industry. People treat each other like crap.

Your lifestyle is unsustainable and you're now paying the price. Which means you don't enjoy what your doing. You still enjoy the idea though and that's why you spend all your time planning.

Imagine if a professional soccer player suddenly didn't want to play anymore. Do you think people would go "oh, you're just procrastinating"?
