The GFW of China is to prevent its people to see outside. The GFW of America, at least for now, is to prevent China from peeking in. One is implemented as an allow list, the other one is a deny list.
The U.S. mindsets doesn’t apply to the Chinese government.
Chinese government has banned countless things from the world for one reason. They believe those things will jeopardize their ruling.
They had banned fb, Twitter, bullied google, youtube, because if Chinese citizens criticize the government on those platforms or see the truth, they will have no good control. They fear their own people more than anything else. Do they care about people’s privacy ? Especially with that intense surveillance? Is any high tech data worth protecting if the data was stolen in the first place?
In your situation, I would follow his order exactly, do the minimum and let him be the firefighter.
I wouldn’t follow a non-technical manager if I have a choice. I tried it once, it’s a shitty experience. It’s hard to build trust between us. He simply didn’t trust/understand what I said. There were always a pair of eyes watching me. The conversation and management overhead is very high.
I probably wouldn’t hire them if I were the boss. They don’t add value to the project much.

Then I had to finish the exercise. It asked the question: what revolution is ai compared to? I typed “industrial revolution “ and passed. But I don’t understand why this conversational ui is better than a simple selection? Because industrial revolution is a long word to type.
In the following section, I clicked “I have a question “ and then the ai said I could choose from a list of 5 or so questions to ask.
Among them there was “what’s unsupervised learning?”
Again I typed “what’s supervised learning?” It said I should focus on the questions it provided....
I attended a talk by a successful Chinese entrepreneur who sold his company after only three years. We asked him why he sold it so early. He said there is no pure businesses (especially when you become big) in China . There are only “political businesses”. Everyone has to work with the government and plays dirty in order to survive. So he wanted out.
