I subbed to Wired last year during a sale and uh... I was never given a premium account linked to my email and support would never answer me. I signed up for the print edition as well and never received any of those. I was getting their newsletter though and that was new. Then I emailed to cancel when I got a billing notification to my email and they were able to cancel it just fine so apparently I did have an account? And then like two weeks ago I received the latest print edition.
Truly have no idea what that was about, but anyway glad to see someone else out here supporting almost all the same news orgs as me (404media is amazing!)
The Pixel Slate actually did run ChromeOS and then could run Android apps in a VM haha.
And those aren't rumors, there is a pretty big effort to get Android ready for ChromeOS and get feature parity. Which to me is really unfortunate, CrOS has such a nice linux base.
And just to clarify, Material 3 Expressive is not shipping in these builds, that will be in a quarterly release build in probably in the first week of September.
I actually have a copy that I stumbled across recently at a book store near me. I'm sure it won't be like the old days, but it was really cool to pick a hard copy up while out and about in town.
In 2021 they praised the device as having good performance at a price point that is ~$30-40 less than what Google is launching their device at. The second gen of that Fire stick is selling for $40 right now on sale with Wi-Fi 6E. I saw some benchmarks posted of this chip and some others (with a Pixel 6 thrown in arguing that using a bunch of older Tensor chips might have also been a good idea.) And also a Shield TV which is 5 years old at this point.
Every time someone finds "lost media", I always wonder how much media is lost to time because the wrong people went to the garage sale and did not know how rare a find was and it gets thrown away at the end of the sale.
Is this still a valid complaint since they have a new interim CEO? I think we should wait and see what Laura Chambers does and then the new pick after this year.
